At the Consumer Electronics Show one of the highlights was the driverless technology that is ready to deploy. Several car companies have approached Congress to start working on new laws for this technology. Lighter cars, no accidents and potentially no more tickets. RV's and Trucks well not need a driver. Tesla is ready to deploy their technology in 2015.

RV'ers well be able to continue traveling even into their older ages and kids will not have to decided when to take the keys away. Of course does this mean 10 year old's well be able to take the car to the store?

One more thing we don't have to do ... automatic everything. We don't perk coffee, we don't have to get up and change channels, we don't have to adjust the volume, we don't watch where we're going ... we don't... we don't ... we don't.
We do run on treadmills tho, almost forgot that part - instead of running in the forest, we watch a fake forest on a wide-screen instead ... or some watch some other people exercising ...

What is this now, we don't have to drive anymore - is this just LAZY, or is there some things we want to actually DO.

Pretty soon, humans will sit at home and watch the life of choice pass by - for an enrollment fee of course, or a registration fee.

Seriously, Driverless Vehicles would need to be 100% of the Vehicles on the Road in order to be useful.

As long as there are Old School Vehicles and. Drivers on the same roads there will be conflict between the two.

Driverless/robotic cars are currently legal in Nevada, California, and Florida, with a new Michigan law allowing the testing of automated or self-driving vehicles as of last month. Google's fleet of driverless test cars has gone about 500,000 miles so far, with only two minor accidents. One occurred while the car was under manual control, and another car was rear ended while stopped at a traffic light.

I'm 59 years old and have a flawless driving record. I might make mistakes, but they're my mistakes and none have resulted in a ticket or accident. There's no way I'd hand over the wheel and pedals.

I know when I'm not competent. I don't know what flaws might make the system incompetent. I trust my computers to do a lot of things, but there are controlled variables that I understand. The streets and highways are a totally different animal. I can generally predict and avoid someone who does something unexpected. I'm not sure an autonomous vehicle can.

If an airplane can land itself, I don't see why a car won't be able to navigate the freeway

Does this mean you can just send your car to the store with note and it will bring stuff home to you? Oh the marketing possibilities, "Send your car to us, we will fill it according to your note, and it will return home while you watch spaceballs on TV."

Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done.

I for one can't wait for it. The worst computer system ( Read Microsoft) will still result in many thousands less accidents than we currently have. Add in that we won't need to keep adding more expensive highways with cars being able to travel maybe ten feet apart and no more drunk or distracted drivers it will be a definite improvement.

You have got to be kidding, with all the possible things that could go wrong! Love your blind enthusiasm! not!

Amen. I've yet to see my computer putting on its makeup while trying to eat breakfast and drink a cup of coffee at 70 mph. 🙂
