Why do many of you not tell your name in your profile? Are you afraid of something? Some of you make some very bold statements from behind your mask of anonymity.

I have nothing to hide. A username DOES NOT protect me. All it does is enable people to be internet bullies and hide behind their username.

I'm a real person, I make mistakes, I say things I regret and try to make right, I try to help people along the way when I can.

If you really want to protect yourself, unplug the computer, smash the hard drive, break the smart phone, dead bolt the doors, stop talking to family and friends, and become a hermit.

I have Friends on this forum that I have met through the years. I know their names and they know mine. Are we virtual friends? Yes, but none the less I am concerned about them, their families, their happiness.. etc.

RV.net... a place where real people get together around an internet campfire, share stories, share triumphs, shed tears together, and welcome new friends.

Because with your real name, people can easily identify your address, your place of employment etc. This would open people up for a barrage of things. In my case, some people take offense to the replies I give on certain campground issues. Those people would like nothing more than to be able to post some bad reviews about my parks, even though they have never set foot in them. Other people post viewpoints that might invoke political, religous or other special interest responses. I don't think too many participants on this forum would want the members of that crazy church in Kansas that protests military funerals to use their personal information to badger them if they posted their support for our fine troops. And if you posted you were interested in buying an RV, I don't think you would want your phone ringing off the hook with solicitations to sell.

Do you think the Rv missing from your driveway or yard is a hint you're out camping.

BTW why do we park in driveways and drive on parkways???? Only in America. lol

I use my name, always have, ever since starting with the computer stuff. Never been robbed, assaulted, accused or any of the other so-called reasons for people to use something other than their real name. Which then leads one to observe how brave some are, hiding behind their assumed persona.

I also post when I am leaving, where I am going, how long I'll be on the road and where I am. Finding me is a snap. All my stuff here and on YouTube is identified.

I do not walk, drive, live, camp in fear. So far, no one has ever come up to me and given me a reason to act otherwise. I don't carry a gun. Used to have a bad cat, now have a ball obsessed dog. I pick up hitch-hikers...why don't I ever see the blonde in a bikini?...oh yes..and grab wifi from 'places'. So far, haven't been charged with theft of anything. Never been run out of a spot for boondocking, either.

And my street is named after a bird. A Plover.

I have read posts from forum members who use their real names and cities or towns. You know what? I have actually done a people search on them and found their address! And in addition, after reading some of their posts I know when they are away from home, too!

Because its not too smart of a thing to do. Heck, I don't even do Facebook or any of the social media. I like to be " anonymous".

Jim, do you really want anyone anywhere that has an interest in knowing where you live to be able to find out easily? Combine that knowledge with knowing when you're away traveling from your posts...

Oh, and if I were a bit more religious, I might be asking about the origin of your street's name. :W

Sounds like you are one of those people that are trying to steal my identity. Your post is exactly how you people get innocent unsuspecting people to give strangers personal info. You start with something simple...then get into it deeper and deeper. Then you rob us blind. We're on to you.
