Fan-Tastic Ultra Breeze vent cover, White or Smoke?

Around here, the RV dealers don't stock the white vent covers, only the smoke. They tell me that even their distributor suppliers don't stock the white ones. Why is the smoke tinted cover that much better? I wanted the white one to match the color of all the other stuff on the roof.

It must be a best seller, because the CW near me didn't have any. Found one at RV World of GA near Buford.

Actually the white ones from Fantastic are cheaper (if you call $60 cheap ) the smoke/black ones are closer to $71.. Its a friggen cover why so much ??
I'm thinking of putting another Fantastic Fann up front and a cover as well, I just wish the prices were a little bit cheaper tho !

I have three Fantastic fans, one manual two automatic. The AC shroud is white. I first ordered the smoke ones, laid them on the roof vents and didn't like the look so exchanged them for whites. Once installed I would say there is still the same amount of light coming through the vents

I already mounted one Maxxair II vent cover to the rear vent with the little fan in it. The mounting system worked well there. It is easy to reach inside the vertical part of the opening flange and tighten the nuts on the mounting bolts.



The double walled Fan-Tastic Fan mounting would require disassembly of the fan to mount the nuts on the bolts, and I didn't see how to do that. The alternative would be just some sheet metal screws screwed into the plastic flange. I didn't like that idea.



So I decided to go with the Fan-Tastic Ultra Breeze vent cover. The mounting brackets slip up under the opening flange. It requires removing and reinstalling 4 screws in the roof and re-applying some sealant, but I don't think that will be too difficult.

The standard Fan-Tastic vent cover does not have the mesh screen like the Maxxair does. The mesh screen is an option. That may be part of why the Fan-Tastic vent cover is less restrictive of flow than other vent covers on the higher volume fan.

I started calling the RV dealers starting with the closest. The fifth call found a vent in stock. After a 100 mile round trip, I have one in hand. Looks like I'll be waiting a couple of days on the weather to install.

We put a black one on the bedroom to diffuse the light. White in the bathroom and living room for the opposite reason.

I put a black one on my trailer because the AC shroud is black along with a lot of the other stuff on the trailer.

If the AC shroud had been white, I'd have probably put a white one on top.

I put a black one up front because I thought it might block more early morning light for better sleeping. Not sure it made that much impact. Anyhow, it was almost half the price of white. Not sorry I got black. I'd buy the cheaper one.

Just as a point of reference regarding use of MaxxAir vent covers instead of Fan-Tastic vent covers: MaxxAir vent covers are everywhere and I've always used them - even over my Fan-Tastic roof fan. However, I'm on my 2nd MaxxAire vent cover (white) in the rear and my 3rd MaxxAire vent cover (white) in the front. All replacements have been free because of MaxxAir's superb warranty service -> replacements have been shipped to me immediately with no questions asked, no receipts needed, and the shipping was free.

My white MaxxAir vent covers have developed small cracks around the mounting holes where the bolts go through - I don't know if the black material would do the same. Those of you who have white MaxxAir vent covers up on your roofs more than about 3 years old might want to check their mounting hole areas for cracking of the material.

We had a white Maxx-Aire cover installed over our new Fantastic Fan - we were at the Camping World near Exit 5 on I-75 in GA.

I chose white and bought online for the same reason. dealers don't stock them. I like the more light effect.

The smoke ones will let diffused light in - the white ones not nearly as much since they're not translucent. I like the extra light, and no one can really see the top of our camper anyway.
