Frustration with CW

We sold our old trailer in early June and immediately put money down and ordered a new Keystone Cougar trailer from Camping World in Harrisburg,Pa.We told our sales rep that we had a friend coming in September from Arizona to have a memorial service for his wife who died in June. We always told him they could stay in our trailer if they ever came back to Pa,but we sold our old one right before his wife died.We were told by our sales rep we should have the trailer by the end of August.A few weeks later we were told that the off line date was September 5th but they were trying to switch the date so we could still have it by the end of August.End of August comes and I e-mail sales rep and he says it looks like it isn't gonna be here.Off line date is still September 5th.So I e-mail him after September 5th and he says it's done and it's labeled a " hot ship". Well now it's 12 days after the off line date and still no word on the trailer other than it's on a truck some where. It only takes 12 hours to get from Indiana to Pa so I don't understand how a so called " hot ship" isn't here by now. When the sales man told me it wouldn't be here by the end of August,I posted in the "Ask Marcus" forum thinking I might get a little help but nothing. My friend and his dog have been living in our basement for the past 2 weeks and will be leaving on Monday. If we were told we wouldn't have the trailer until October that would be one thing. But being told it will be here by end of August and then the "hot ship" and still no trailer leaves us very frustrated.

X2 I know some members like CW. However, anytime I tried to do business with them, I got the run-around and nothing but lies. I cannot think of any reason why I would ever go into one of their stores.

First, I would demand the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for the trailer you bought. This way they don't pull any switches or sell your trailer to someone else. Second, 2.5 weeks is really not a huge delay, other than they promised it earlier. I would politely tell them that if it's not in your hands by Friday the 26th, the deal is off, as they have not fulfilled the contract in a timely manner.

Unlike vehicles, many manufacturers of RV's build on "runs." Specific models are built together on the line. When inventory and existing orders are filled, the factory will start another "run." If the model the OP had selected had just had a "run," then it may be many months before that model is manufactured on the line again.

Why don't she do as any "good" fellow RVer would do and call the factory to help the guy out? :S

The buyer entered into a contract with CW, not Keystone. It is CW's reponsibility to make sure Keystone delivers the unit as promised. Too bad the OP didn't insert a clause in the contract allowing him to walk away if the unit wasn't delivered on time.
There isn't a dealership, be it automobiles, boats, RVs or anything else that will place a special order with a time of delivery clause that allows the customer to just walk away. All those dealers know that delivery dates are fluid at best. No way would they risk getting hung with a unit they didn't want because some assembly line worker got the sniffles and the manufacturer couldn't finish the rig on time.

IMO, the customer should not need to be contacting mfr!!! That is what the dealer/salesman should be doing.

This is what we had to do when we had this happen. The dealer gave us the Keystone sales rep's phone number. He got in on one of the next trucks out and it was to the dealer the next morning.

You have more patience than me. I would already have a new trailer from somewhere else. Good luck.

I don't have much patience either. big sale, you should get some decent consideration for that OP. sorry for the troubles. sounds miserable.

If its done it might be sitting on a transporters lot somewhere…

Missing delivery dates isn’t uncommon in the industry, often by much more than you are experiencing so far… generally the dealer doesn’t have any control over the manufacturing process and times promised… yes its frustrating but you’re dealing with an industry that places CS somewhere near the bottom of the priority list… still I prefer to deal with the headaches of ordering and get what I want, than to buy off the lot…

I don't get it. They can build these trailers in hours and build dozens ever day. So why does it take weeks to get one?

Of corse I have never special order anything either.
Because they actually don't build them in a couple of hours. There are many orders in front of this guy and this guy is not the Queen of England. They are not going to tell everyone else tough luck, we have to stop work on all the other rigs and build one for this special guy. Completion and delivery of any unit is dependent on many factors. All the components have to be at the factory at the appointed time. There can be no problems at the factory, the workers can't be calling in sick. There has to be a driver available to deliver the rig when it is finished. No one person, no one company has total control over when a rig will be finished. I really don't see how Camping World is culpable in this situation. They are only relaying the best information they have available to them at the time.
