Gas Prices in Canada for US travellers

While gas prices vary considerably across the country, here in Alberta we are presently paying about 66.4 cents per liter at Costco. That's in Canadian currency. If you are thinking of travelling to Canada, your much stronger U.S. dollar will buy 1 US Gallon (3.785 liters) for US$1.82, based on the present price at Costco. US Dollar is presently at CDN$1.38.
Of course, everything else you buy comes with a bonus of about 38 cents on the dollar, too.
Maybe this is the year to visit us in Canada?

I am looking at our trip to the Maritimes with the favourable exchange rate as a little bit of "pay back" for when we had one of our kids in a Canadian college. At the time the CDN$ was stronger than the USD$.

Watching the fuel prices but will still fillup before entering Canada & return to US with enough fuel to reach first fuel station.

Gas is $1.41 USD/gal here in the Detroit area, I think I'll stay put.

Gas is .779 per liter at Costco here in Fredericton New Brunswick. That's about $2.90 CDN per US Gallon or about $2.00 USD with the exchange rate.

For our American friends Visa, MasterCard are accepted everywhere and American Express at most places. I rarely use cash for anything up here. I've had the same $100.00 in my wallet for months. Using a credit card with a fair foreign exchange policy is the way to go.

"Considerably" is an understatement ... your Alberta prices are unrealistically low compared to the rest of the country. Any American visiting S Ontario will find current prices well over 90 cents / litre, particularly anywhere around the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Ain't no "deals" here! :R

I'm not sure where you are, but it was $0.899 at the local She'll on the way home tonight. If I'd wanted to detour a little, GasBuddy says it was $0.872 only a few km out of my way.

& you can also check by province for fuel price regulation. New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador all have fuel price regulation. fuel, utilities, regulation are all words to use when googling for such.

Also check distances of travel from point to point. Don't think that doing a route in the US will cost less. T'ain't so, since distance Canada locale to Canada local may be much less, than driving south all that way .....

Besides which, if you want to see Canada drive in Canada.

Below is a link to a Canadian Border website that lets you know what food you can bring. Generally there are very few exclusions for personal imports. There is very little that you can't bring in!!

For instance the 250 KG (551 lbs) per person of fresh fruits and vegetables you can bring with you should last for an extended visit.

The list can change daily but the website is updated with the latest info.

By the way the high produce prices are generally in winter and spring. If you are here in the summer the favourable exchange rate for US dollars will offset higher prices.
