I am 58 years old, work full time and even do some welding and construction on the weekends. The latter is where we get a lot of our RV and travel budget. Most of our trips are 1 week with a few that go 10 or 12 days. With both of our jobs it is hard to get away any longer than that. Even now when we travel we usually take at least a few minutes each day to answer business emails and even take/make a few phone calls.
We have saved all of our lives and look forward to retirement and longer trips. We have no desire to full time but 2 to 4 month trips are definitely in the plan.
Lately I have been thinking a lot about when to do this. The biggest problem I see is medical insurance. Both of us have some issues that require doctor visits every 2 to 4 months so unless something changes that is as long as we could be gone. I had a surgery 2 years ago that was over $100,000. Without insurance that would have been very hard on our retirement budget.
So, how old were you when you retired and what did you do about medical insurance?
