Ideas re. keeping critters off our tow vehicle when camping?

At a gas stop on the way back from our most recent state-park camping weekend, I noticed extensive, shallow, criss-crossing surface scratches on the hood of the truck...haven't looked at the roof yet...best I can figure, a raccoon or something was break-dancing on it while we peacefully slept through the night in the trailer.

Is there something along the lines of 'raccoon repellent' that would keep them, and opossums or whatever else, off the vehicle? (we generally camp in state parks, where there's often abundant wildlife)

I did that once and got in all sorts of trouble. Campground host saw me and called the law down on me.

of course....it could have been because I skipped the step of using the spray bottle.......

You beat me to it. ๐Ÿ˜›

Lots of beer helps in making urine too.

I've always found a high powered pellet gun or a quiet .22 and a big stew pot tends to solve your type of problem. Of course, you need to stay up after the sun goes down and be a pretty decent shot.

ports, now you got me worried. I have not been cuffed up for that yet.

Wish you had not posted that, now I may have a problem getting the hose going, :B

Get a jar of peanut butter and smear the peanut butter around the trunk of a close by tree. Put it up about 4 feet high and make a 4ing all around the tree. The racoons will. E so busy trying to lick off the peanut butter, clawing and pulling each other down from the tree, they will leave everything in your campsite alone, and you will have entertainment from the window of your camper. And this really works.

We were out North of Palm Springs in a camp ground, road runner decided that the front left corner of the forward vent was good to peck at, now I have to recaulk that area, had to cover the vent with big plastic square storage bin and a good sized rock, animals can do a lot of damage.

A blue tarp and some bungee cords

In the Everglades National Park the vultures and crows love to sit on parked vehicles and peck away at the rubber windshield wipers and moldings, and the park service has large bins filled with tarps and bungees for visitors to borrow to cover their vehicles while they are out hiking, biking or paddling.

We have our own just for the purpose you are talking about

Most people go to state parks to enjoy nature, just enjoy it.
