Thought I'd start a new topic for Gate Guards to use for comments. Like the moderator suggested-keep technical stuff, recipes, mechanical, etc. where they belong. Lets hear from everyone sucking down that caliche dust.

Are sure this cat didn't escaped from a zoo or wildlife park somewhere?

According to Texas Parks & Wildlife, there are no black cougars in Texas and never have been.

Plus with the rounded ears that looks more like black leopard. Cougars have sharp, pointy ears.

Don, all I can say is awesome, the black ones are rare anywhere. When are you leaving for the summer, we'll take your gate....:B.

Blondie, did you hear the gossip about Jimmy's good fortune at a casino out in AZ. Heard from one of his co-workers that he won a new sports car while gaming at the casino. Would be nice if it happened.

Sorry, we are not leaving until June 26. It has been a very good gate. The most log pages we have filled have been 3. Usually it's one or one and a half. Very seldom do we have any traffic after 10PM( if
the fracing crew is not here, of course)

Well...It finally happened...our rig is moving next week and we are going to drill on a hunting ranch. We knew someday we would probably have a gate that had to be opened for every vehicle...well the time has come! I hope this will be one of our fast wells(19-21 days). One good thing about this is the fact that we usually only have a sheet or less a day of entries..weekends a half sheet or less.
We know the landowner and had contact with him when we drilled next to his property last year (nips the bottle constantly and complains about everything). It will definitly be an interesting month for us.

Considering the economy any opinions as to whether there will be shortages of gate guards once the heat starts? And is there a realistic chance a single person can get work and plenty of it, assuming of course he's a good worker?

There are companies that hire singles (there are some at Gate Guard Services). Some have gates that are tailored for singles-usually they're only open certain hours. Sometimes you are asked to work what is called a slow gate. How you get food and sundries on a 24 hr. gate is a mystery to me. I've heard all kinds of stories. Andy's forum has a list of gate security companies and you can call around. www.myoldrvforum.com

Thanks. Called GGS last year and was nicely told this was for couples. It's the uncertainty of having work that keeps me from pulling the trigger. I might call the various companies in the summer and see if the heat opens up some opportunities. Might do the opposite of some and work summers and head to Mexico in the winter.

Can't remember what a regular gate is like, we couldn't either till this week. We were used to 7 to 9 pages of incoming vehicles per day and in the last 2 days, we have only had 1½ pages total. All equipment except 3 cranes are gone and the only folks here now are the plant operators. Gate opens at 7 with the first entry after 8 and we close it at 5. Life is great and yes we get 3 uninterrupted meals a day, now. Of course all this will change in another couple months when we close this gate and Jamie gives us a new assignment, but going to suck this one dry, while we can.....:B
