Is it the People or the the Places?

When we first started RVing in the mid 70's, we were drawn to the lifestyle by the places we could see. Forty years and 45 states later, it has become more and more about the people we meet and not the places we see. It could be that we've seen so many places or the fact that there are so many people we have never met. Or it could be a maturing perspective on life. Why do you RV.

For us it has always been places - no question.

We go to see new places and also repeat places we love.

We are not the "part of the crowd" people who sit around the campfire swapping stories of all kinds; probably mostly truthful.

My wife and I have a one word answer to most anything in life --- PEOPLE !

That can be said in either a positive situation or the opposite. We migrate toward the former and stay away from the latter.

Give us - with our dog - a hike on a mountain or along the beach or out on an early morning or later evening photo shoot of the sun and scenery and we absolutely love it and are at peace.

We met a couple during our first year of full-timing. They were in the same
RV park with us and their first motorhome was one exactly like ours. Have
kept in touch thru the years and have met at Stephen Foster SP in Florida
for many Christmas's. Have been in every state except Hawaii and have visited
many places throughout the U.S. Would not trade these experiences for anything!

For us it is both. We enjoy seeing new places and meeting new people. We have run into many that we have met over the years. Always nice to see new faces and old faces.

For years, during my regular employment, I dealt with the very worst society had to offer for people. When retirement came I was looking for places and NOT people. Well guess what, the places I have seen have come with some really good folks! ๐Ÿ™‚

I was hesitant to open up and let down my defenses and somewhat stand offish at first, but now I see that RV folks have the same interests as I do and most of the folks have allot of valuable information and experiences that they are freely willing to share.

Being open minded and willing to give twice what I received has worked well for me. Along the way the places have been amazing, but the people are a bonus.

"Breath taking Alberta. Her Mountains Draw You, But Her People Bring You Back".

That's what we love about RVing everywhere. Drawn by the landscape, return after being made to feel welcome. It's all about the memories, the places and the people. Rving lets us experience what's around the next bend.

Where can we meet? Oh yeah, that would be antithetical. Keep on keeping on and we might eventually meet. Very unlikely, but we like your style. :B

For us it is the places and the people are the frosting on the cake kind of thing. One thing we have found is even if the place is a downer we are still able to make the best of it and have fun, however if we run into some inconsiderate people it is hard to excuse poor behavior and it can ruin the experience.

Thankfully, most all people we meet are very sweet frosting on the cake.

We have on a couple of occasions met and hung out with strangers for a couple of day while camping, but certainly do not go out of our way to create new relationships. I have sat across a fire from probably hundreds of folk, and most of them were forgotten within a week.
I am certainly not uncivil or unfriendly, but I have no pressing desire to create anything more than a casual relationship.
