LCD TV hold down

Hi -
I'm replacing the older TV in my RV with a new LCD unit. It's built into the cabinets. Anyone have any recommendations on straps or some other product that will hold the TV in place while traveling? (a wall mount bracket won't work as the TV will be sitting on a shelf recessed into the cabinet). Camping World had something on their website. Anyone have any experience? Thanks.

Straps with good velcro work just fine. The TVs are not heavy, so just keec a bit of support to prevent vibration.

When I replaced my CRT TV I decided that I would like it in a different place.
I have a Class C and decided to mount it on the cab wall, more or less at eye level.
The TV cabinet above is now used for storage.

Mine is mounted like the one picture above and I use TV Grips on both sides. Never has moved...it is a 37" size. The bedroom tv...32".is on a shelf from the medicine cabinet to a small wall cabinet and I drilled two holes in the base thru the bottom shelf and used two 1/4" bolts with nyloc nuts. It has never moved either.

I installed a flatscreen in our Itasca last summer. Took the sliding door off the cabinet the old tv sat inside and bolted on a bracket that holds the new set in place very firmly. Local stereo shop had the bracket and even helped install it.

They make RV TV and appliance grip hold downs. They can be found at any RV camping store or RV dealership.

TV GRIPS
"A welcome addition to any boat or RV! New TV Grips hold portable TVs and appliances safely and securely. Many times stronger than shock cord or hook & loop fasteners. 3M adhesive removes cleanly. Safe for use on gloss wood finishes......"

I used them to hold down a smaller than the opening temporary micro wave and it never budged. Great product for holding down stuff in the RV! :C

Bill, Ours is wall mounted in a cupboard that I took off the doors. I use one of the straps that are used to hold chairs or recliners in place and secured on each side and the strap comes around to the front of the TV and snaps with a plastic coupler that looks like a seat belt clip. Has worked pretty well. Good Luck oh which way you decide and Happy Camping.

I got rolls of 2" hook and loop Velcro and the metal hardware from this company, StrapWorks.com:

http://www.strapworks.com/Hook_Loop_including_VELCRO_and_other_brands_p/v.htm

I had a local upholstery shop sew the loop in one end of the long hook piece and a short piece of loop on the other end. The kind of strap that is hook on one side and loop on the other does not work well in a metal loop situation.

I used it for a a 46" TV. Also had a piece of 1" that I got off of something to hold the movable TV arm in.

I have to be careful not to overtighten these as some of the thinner flat screens are somewhat flexible. This TV was right over the axles of a fifth wheel and did not have shocks.

We put strap brackets on either side in the middle:

Strap Bracket

We took nylon webbing and sewed Velcro on both sides. When we are traveling, we pull the webbing across the TV tight using the Velcro and when we are in camp, we remove the webbing.

We just stuff a pillow into the cabinet to hold the flat screen in place

Almost all LCD/LED televisions are designed to be wall mounted. Check to back to see if there are four screw holes, or check the instructions which came with the TV.

There are dozens of wall mount models available - from fixed ones like which came with the main 38" TV in our TT, to swing arm units which I put a 24" LED TV on for the bedroom. There are extension type wall mounts which are designed to hold a TV in a cabinet and allow you to pull it forward for viewing.

For the swing arm unit I mounted two long battery tiedown nylon straps to hold it in place when we travel. I can also slip that TV off the mount by sliding it up, and place it outside in good weather to watch the race in comfort.

Just make sure you have a strong wood backing block if you want to install a fixed mount. Many of the mounts will weigh more than today's very light weight TVs.

We have a small 19" LCD in the kids room in our bunk house and ay it face down on the couch in their room, base gets put in the crack for the two cusions and the screen down agains the cusion. Never had problems this way. I did forget to take it out of its cubby hole once or twice and it never moved butI still disconect and remove just in case.

I like the screw it down option but have been looking at some wall mounts also.

our tv sets in a cabinet and there is a strap that is screwed into the wall behind the tv and the strap comes around the tv and is snapped together like a dog collar and you can pull on the excess strap to tighten the hold on the tv. the tv bracket is also screwed to the back wall.
