New Chevy Truck with wifi compared to truck towing RV!!

Anyone seen the new Chevy Truck with wifi commercial?

It asks a couple which they would prefer to buy.

First they show a truck towing a little camper with an antenna on top with an assistant named Dolores inside.....and then a brand new Chevy Truck with wifi.

What a hoot, it was too funny.

We are limited to ATT. I had Verizon for my work cell before retiring and I had no service at my house, convenient at times. We bought a new Silverado this past spring with the WiFi. Without smartphones, it came in handy. We decided to step into the 21st century and get smartphones. We no longer see the need for the truck wifi.

I just got a 2016 equinox and it is $15.00 per month for 1 gig. I haven't tried it yet because my smart phone already does that.

When I went full time I purchased a Sprint USB mobile broadband for my internet on the road. Which is now over 8 years old!

I have had service in EVERY place I have traveled! And still use it as my main source for internet in my winter home.

Yesterday I used a neighbors computer in their house. They always yack about what they pay for super high speed internet connection......my old Sprint USB broadband is WAY faster! Go figure.

sprint/verizon jetpacks are definitely the way to go for wifi. better than using the cell as a hotspot. run longer and better service than using the phone.

however, come over to our house and try to get reception with sprint. Nada.. zip. Verizon yes, ATT yes, sprint nope, won't even switch to the verizon tower to roam.

I guess we travel enough places that we've had spots were either GSM (ATT etc.) or CDMA (verizon sprint etc.) service is not available. so having both is worthwhile for us.

But isn't Chevy getting almost desperate with their commercials? The aluminum cage with a bear. The one where they have the three behind the big doors and they claim "best in conventional towing". This one.

I think it all started back when Howie Long was cracking on the step Ford had in their tailgate. Of course, Chevy comes along later with a step in the bumper.

You may be taking this way too seriously.
Compared to a lot of car commercials, this one isn't bad and I find it funny and entertaining. (And by the way, I drive a Dodge truck, so I've got no dog in this fight).
I appreciate commercials that are funny. None of them would convince me to buy a car or truck, so at least they entertain me. I like when the companies go at each other, especially in a humorous way. I liked the Pepsi vs Coke commercials too. As someone else said, most of what they say is B.S. so just sit back and be entertained.

My 2015 Chevy truck came with this WiFi hotspot. I was hoping it would work for me. It uses the AT&T network, costs $50/month and can be started and stopped anytime.

It didn't work for me. It was rare to get a good enough connection, even though the signal strength showed 5 bars. This was in FL, GA, TN, KY and IN.

My phone can also setup a WiFi hotspot. Trust me - a phone can't handle this for very long. Both of mine get too hot to hold.

Yeah, I've seen the ad on TV. I am still opting for Delores and that single axle.

The other GM commercial, the one with the trucks behind the doors and participants picking which is "Truck of the Year" was interesting, too. I noticed the big guy that picked "Ford" was edited from the second half of the commercial. I figured he either walked off the set when they opened the doors or started arguing with the video crew about the veracity of their claims.

Bad call quality and tiny screen can certainly be overcome with a good smart phone versus a cheap one. I agree the Chevy wifi gimmick is unneeded and another way to get a monthly fee from those unaware they have a wifi hotspot in thier pocket already. It is a waste of advertising $$$ for a throw away feature.

You know, as long as we are on the subject. Yes, I did get a cell phone with WiFi from my employer so I do have that now.

(I have to say that my old flip Trac Phone was better for making a call and worked in a lot more places. The sound quality was 100's of times better too. You can't hear anything that anybody says on this smart phone. And , they can't hear you either)

The new smart phone is a lot like my home lap top computer but, doing every thing on the tiny screen is a pain. It would would be nice if there was some way to use a cord a plug the phone into my computer so I could have the best of both worlds.

Of course, I want to do this using a single purchase and not have to pay a monthly fee.
