Of all the millions of RV-ers, one or two illegal dumps each year getting caught is pretty good statistic.

I don't know if it is intentional or not, but I do know that come SXSW in Austin, there tend to be a lot of motorhomes parallel parked on neighborhood streets... and nearby storm drains will smell a lot like what comes from a black tank for a few weeks after.

In your mind maybe, but that is the perception of many non RVers.....those living in older RVs are homeless. In the NON RV community, unless you are driving a Prevost, there is a stigma associated with the RV and that is what needs to be addressed...

I agree, I don't think this will reflect on RVers. As said, this family was thought to be homeless. I hope that the family were educated on proper disposal and where it can be done. I would not think that the family were intentionally contaminating the river, they just did not know any better.

When out and about camping we don't let our black tank get anywhere near full. This keeps any "need to dump" way less than an emergency.

Of course it helps if one can keep their black tank's gauge working correctly or, alternatively, is carrying a flashlight along so as to be able to look down the RV's open toilet drain and visually check.

If this makes us look bad "Griswold Family Christmas" on National Lampoon would have done us in many years ago. This is a rip off of a movie stunt.

Quite true but it seems like these kinds still post as full-timers!

Doesn't the fit the definition of "Full Timer"? Homeless or not, just the really wrong think to do!! Not a knock on Full Timers, that is my plan in a couple of years!

I hauled full tanks home last spring over Santiam Pass in Oregon 4,800'+ , because there wasn't a handy dump station, took it to CW later that week. I also hauled full tanks home from the Coast once, because the weather was so nasty, heavy rain and strong winds. Another trip to CW. :B

What makes this worse, is that at the bottom of that article it lists a whole bunch of places where there are free dump sites.

Thanks for sharing but, I don't think it makes us look bad just because we're RVers.

There have been Priests, Police Officers, FBI Agents, Fire Fighters, School Teachers, Military Members, etc., etc. arrested and sent to prison for various crimes.

I don't think it makes everyone in these positions look bad.

I think it's like the title of your post. it's, "One Bad Apple",
