Outdated paint scheme => Vinyl Strips?

So my trailer has about the ugliest colors, and I want to put Vinyl Stripes over the ugliness instead of painting it...

I have seen some 2” strips on Amazon, but I don’t know if they would last in the Sun light.

My current color is Purple, purple, pink, teal, and green. Because the inside is blue, I was thinking about sticking to blue on the outside too, which is not bad since my Rig would be a Red, White, and Blue color combination.
What’s your thoughts?

Thanks,
Joe Zeppe

Opps..guess you can't post 3 pics in one post. Like I said, painting my fun stuff is kind of a hobby of mine.

I had the same type of problem. My old Minnie Winnie was badly sun-faded from years in Arizona. I checked auto paint shops for a new paint job or just the decals. All were pretty expensive. I decided to use some auto paint and self-paint some tropical scenes (palm trees and parrots) on my old Minnie-Winnie. Was great fun and the old gal gots lots of compliments. I already had the brushes and artist paints as it's kind of a hobby with me anyway. The good part was it only cost me the price of a couple gallons of auto paint.

Any automotive grade paint will work, just prep the surface well or it will not adhere properly. You could just buy some decals like you originally planned, would be a lot less work.

See, my paint:

so if I were to paint it... what kind?

First as others said, you cannot go on top of any decals that are existing. They will need to be removed before a new application. Second, and most import, is that not all vinyl film is created equal. Not even remotely. The proper vinyl has an adhesive designed for the exposure and the material itself made with additives to slow down UV and ozone degradation. The material is not cheap by any means. My nephew has his own, very successful business doing vinyl on all sorts of vehicles - race cars, motorcycles, buses, RVs, commercial trailers, pizza delivery guy, etc. You really will get what you pay for on this sort of application.

It's painted currently. The vinyl will go over the painted stripes.

I'll take photos and post.

When I needed to match a stripe on my RV I went to Vinyl Graphics they have everything you need and in the color you want.

Just scroll down the left side to Pinstripes. there you will find all of their stripes and the sizes needed.

Before you order spend the $6 bucks and get the Universal Products Color chart this will tell you all the colors that they have and on the back of it it lists the sizes they come in with the needed code to order.

I found a perfect match from the chart, the colors in the chart are on vinyl strips so you can lay them over anything you want to see the match.

Universal Products makes the top rated vinyl striping.

You will have to remove the old stripes or the new ones will not adhere properly.

Removing old baked on decals can be a heck of a job.

A sign shop might apply graphics, provided the current decals and the surrounding surface are in good condition. A knowledgeable graphics person should test your old ones first with a "test tape", and not take the job if the old graphics are breaking down under pressure.

A good good vinyl wrap is durable. Cheap materials, a poor surface, or lack of training can make a project turn into a mess a few months down the road.

If you remove the graphics from your trailer you will see ghost outlines of them afterwards. You can't polish them away and they are very obvious. Believe me, I tried.

+1 on the sign shop. They might even be able to do a wrap.

Personally I do not care what a camper looks & would not go to the expense but I stopped caring what others think a long time ago just found out no need to keep up with the Jones' they are just deep in debt.

But you might check out what a sign shop would charge to make the stripes..........

Anytime a decal or stripe is applied to the exterior surface of a vehicle, you have started a potential failure. I'd suggest to paint it.
