Funny, my step-son says something similar whenever we talk about going down to Fort Lauderdale for the winter. Of course that was before we bought a livable trailer, and he does have a very nice mother-in-law suite on his home.

I just wish more people did hate Florida, especially in the winter , be easier to get a campsite and wouldn't have to pay snowbird prices. Whereever you are this winter have a safe one and Merry Christmas to all.

Severe weather, including a possible tornado, caused โ€œmajor damageโ€ to several homes and brought down power lines in Palm Coast, Florida, late Saturday, officials said.

One resident reportedly witnessed the roof being ripped from his home, according to Cindy Lane, spokeswoman for the City of Palm Coast.

A tornado warning was issued, but there were no reports of injuries.

More than two thousand homes were still without power as of 11pET.

The National Weather Service has informed the town that they are sending two meteorologists to the scene Sunday to confirm the touchdown of a tornado.

Six or seven homes sustained "major damage" in the severe storm, which struck at about 7 p.m. ET Saturday, Lane said.

Florida: Land of the newly weds and nearly deads. I think I'll pass on both counts. I get to Florida every winter for several days and hear more people b!tch about the weather then I do up here. Walk the beaches when the temps are in the 50's and those who are brave enough to brave the temps are bundled up more then I am when out in single digit numbers with the wind blowing.

It was 84 today.

Probably rain tomorrow followed by a cool spell. The warm is starting to slip away.

Yup I visited it several times and thought it was SO great not to have snow and below zero temps........so much I finally bought a house here last year....the humidity, mold, and unbearable heat for over 5 months does leave a bit to be desired. And the amount of heinous crime, daily hit and run deaths and daily bank heists, that they seem to not even bother investigating any of them and they go on unsolved and continue daily. THAT I find real disturbing.:(

But then, I remember trying to cram in all the fun you could during the whole whopping 60 days of summer weather up north and I guess I don't mind the fact that I have to keep the house and cars locked up tight as a drum and maggie by the door at all times living here in warm Florida.

Yup, it's a give and take any way you look at any relocation! :B

Happy trails,

Michigan is a wonderful state all 4 seasons.. however NOT for my motor home.. Thus, I practice as you do... But I actually like Michigan winters so long as I do not have to shovel snow and chip ice. I mean there is something about a moonlit walk past (or in) a park covered by new fallen snow that I just can not describe, It is almost a religious expereience.

or sunrise past the same park after a freezing rain.

NOTE the key word WALK in that paragraph though.. DRIVE, not so nice after a freezing rain. But it is beautiful and I've had the pleasure several times.

That said.

I also like the fact that the snow they are getting this week fell here as RAIN and ran off to the lake where it will not be a problem, in fact it can light up my life The lake is man made, the dam is hydro-electric)

It's 73 today in Tucson. ๐Ÿ™‚

I probably didn't say it right, but what I meant was that Florida's highest point is the lowest of the all the state's highest points. Either way, it isn't very high. We almost froze to death today. It was like 47 this morning. It is supposed to be in the 30's in the morning. I may just have to call in cold to work...:E

Dude, 47 is motorcycle weather. Might need to wear long sleeves under the jacket...but still wouldn't close the vents on my helmet. ๐Ÿ™‚

Someone posted this on one of the other forums. I guess the natives are restless in all the other states! :B

.....and I am sitting all warm in toasty right smack in the middle of that state!

I moved to Florida from the Midwest 15 years ago. My observations (worth approximately .02):

1. I do miss the change of seasons.

2. Lots of bugs - because it never gets cold enough to kill them off (Orlando area).

3. Summers are hot and steamy. Hey - Florida is a sand peninsula sticking out into the ocean ! Orlando is the same latitude as Cairo Egypt !

4. Yes, it's flat, but in general, it's really not that much different then in the Midwest.

5. High points are relative. I'm sure that folks from Wyoming laugh at what are called mountains East of the Mississippi.

6. I have never been in a state that has more diverse wildlife then Florida, especially if you include the coastal areas (dolphins, manatee, rays, sea turtles, etc). Where else can you find cougars, alligators, bears, and 4 ft tall birds in the same county ?

7. The Keys are a very special place.

8. I think it's almost impossible to beat the weather south of the Orlando area in winter. Think 'Flowers blooming all year'.

9. I think the summer weather in Wisconsin, upper Michigan, Wyoming or Idaho is also hard to beat. I only wish it lasted longer.

10. If you live year round in Florida, you better be able to tolerate heat and humidity. If you live up north, you better be able to tolerate cold. It just seems that the older I get, the easier it is for me to tolerate heat as opposed to cold. I like being able to wear shorts year-round. No shoveling, no heavy coats, no worries about the car starting in the morning. It's a long list.

Next month we're headed for North Ft. Myers. I have absolutely no Michigan winter activities. Sunshine & warmth is all I need in the winter. Of course Michigan is wonderful the other 3 seasons.

We all love what we love, dislike what we don't like and try to avoid the word hate.

But I agree with other posters who said they like changes in the seasons. We've lived in warmer climates and prefer otherwise...indeed too nice is just plain boring.

I don't hate Florida but I most certainly don't like it enough to want to live there. We spent 5 out of 6 winters there in areas from the panhandle the gulf coast, the Atlantic coast, central, alligator alley and Key West...that was enough for a lifetime...never again!

I love Michigan!!! However, since I live rather close to that Lake Effect Snow Machine - we WILL head to Florida for some sunshine. We don't even need "warmth" - just sunshine. I'll be that pasty-white person walking on the beach in my shorts and T-shirt when it's 60 degrees and all the residents are bundled in their winter parkas....LOL!!
