Portable icemaker?

Anyone here use a portable icemaker in their camper? I've done some research and am aware of their downfalls, but am wondering if they are worth it anyway?

Only downside is it is somewhat heavy. I plug it in outside while I set up and by the time I have the 10x10 canopy up, chairs and tables out the ice is ready to drop into drinks. Best $10 I ever spent at a garage sale.

We usually pack some ice cubes in the freezer before we leave but I use the portable ice maker if we get low on cubes. They throw off some heat so if you can set hem outside your better off. I usually plug mine in the back of the hauler with my portable freezer.

I considered it, but counter space is so limited that we don't bring a toaster. I save a half bag of ice from filling the cooler and stick it in the freezer. I've also brought ice from the home ice maker in a plastic grocery bag. Beverages coming from the cooler don't need to be iced so we don't use much - especially BEER!

My wife wanted one I was dead set against it. Thought they were gimmicks, they would not work as stated, would not work in the heat. Well she bought one and boy was I wrong. We used it in SC this summer, upper 90's 100 one day. Kept it outside, dumped the tray in our cooler when it got full, never bought ice for two weeks. The cooler was kept outside in the shade so it made a lot of ice. The model she bought makes 50# a day off f you keep dumping it when the tray is full. The only noise it made was the sound of ice dumping in the tray.

We love ours, we keep it inside on the floor by the kitchen sink - easy to fill and keep an eye on. No need to buy ice, we also save it in gallon bags.

We had one, used it extensively. It was great, til we forgot & left it sitting on the counter. It fell off while under way & sort of broke.
Our current MH has the ice maker in the freezer.

Would we buy another portable? Probably.

We have used an Emerson ice maker in the past. Takes a while to get going and produces "soft" roundish cubes with a hole in the middle. We had to be home when maker was running since ice would melt if left in maker. We filled gallon freezer bags and put them in the freezer in fridge. Eventually it froze in a block. We winter, semi full time, and have decided that it is easier to pick up ten pound bags at camp store and put in freezer. Less hassle. If we had to worry about cost of buying the ice, we would give up rv'ing.

Ours does not make much noise. I used to keep it on the counter, but started putting it in the shower.

X2 I asked about this here last month and got one from Amazon and found that for us the shower works great. Arrived at a campground last week and set everything up, including the ice maker, and had about 10lbs by bedtime. Enough to top off our small cooler for our 3 day trip. Great item so far.
