Rodents?

Hello...

Any thoughts and recommendations as far as rodents? I didn't see one in my fiver but I saw couple traces where plastic material like spatula and garbage bag that's in a roll, in it's box. I got 4 D-Cons that I placed where I found traces but I wanna know if you have suggestions on how I can rodent proof my unit.

This sounds like a great idea! I use moth balls and I hate trying to get that smell out in the spring. Much rather smell peppermint then mothballs.

How do you put it out? In a dish or on cotton balls etc?

I put some on a cotton ball and then put the cotton ball in a small plastic cup. That way it doesn't make a mess.

Sticky pads are cruel but do work.
I had a mouse get caught in a spring trap last spring. I noticed the trap gone and it took a few minutes to find it. The mouse dragged it off and fell into the driver side doorwell. Unfortunately, it was still very much alive. I had to club it to put it out of its misery.

I sealed every hole I could find with spray foam and sealed around the power cord with sheet metal and duct tape. No problems since I did that.

I just had a professional exterminator come to the house for the same problem. He uses a copper mesh to plug holes. Steel wool rusts.

I also am employing a trick previously reported on this forum. Put aluminum foil under the tires. They cannot get sufficient traction to climb the tires that way. I am hopefully taking that theory to the next level this year. I am parking the MH on aluminum flashing with car wax on it to make it even slicker. The flashing should be permanent, and I can tape it to the MH garage floor and always park in the same place and hopefully have all year protection. I will report on results next year.

I forgot to mention the pro also told me to use fox urine available at hunting supply stores to deter entry. I will place a few drops on the afore mentioned parking pads.

I will not use poisions because we have pets. My father lost his dog that way. Apparently the critters carried small bits to a area accessable to the pet before they expired. The dog got into it and also expired. Very traumatic for all involved.

Dogs? I have 2 small dogs and have never had any problems. Do any of you who are having problems have dogs? Maybe I'm just lucky. The primary place I camp is in Northern MN. But I am also in Texas.

Tried both this past summer. Surprising, the glue traps cought a lot of the little buggers and the snap traps never once got one. Dont tell me they were placed wrong, i had them next to each other. They simply ignored the peanut butter in the snap traps and went right for the smell on the sticky traps.

Glue traps seem pretty cruel and sadistic to me. I know the object is to kill them, but that seems torturous. I use snap traps baited with peanut butter, check frequently. I know some believe that actually draws more to the unit, but that hasn't been my experience. Most important is close any small holes in the bottom that might allow access with steel wool.

Had a dead one last week. It was in the dash air system. Finally saw it with the recently purchased inspection camera and was able to get it out. I had used the bait. Now after reading the posts I think I will go with the traps. It sure did stink. A trap in the hose bay would make sense.
