Senior Single RVing

So is anyone else out there RVing, a single senior? I am in the process of divesting myself of my home. I own a small class c and plan to live in it full time for a couple of years. Today is my 73rd birthday. Am I crazy or what? How about you? Are there any other crazy old ladies who have decided to live on the edge? I have 2 small dogs and will be towing a Tribute. I have spent winters on the west coast in the past years but have always come home to the stick house. I know that this is a stage of life for me but what the heck. I don't have a great deal of time left so why not! Tell me what you are doing? Have you had any negative experience if you have done or are doing this. Sure would like some stories to leave with. I am "MOVED IN". I am no longer tied down with "stuff". I will have a "give away" for the kids and grand kids this coming month and then will leave for the winter if all goes well. I plan to spend the summers in my kids back yards and am starting there now. A month with each should wear us out for a year.

Kinda glad I found this thread, though I'm not exactly a senior (I'm only 45)... I'm single, never been married, no kids, but I love to go camping... There's a bunch of folks I like to go camping with, but they're all married and got families and I often feel like a third leg or a fifth wheel (not to be confused with the type of rv) when I go camping with them... I do have a house and a steady job and don't plan on retiring anytime soon (I couldn't afford to be a full-time RV'er; and the way things are looking I might end up having to work well into my 70's). One of these days I would like to find a female companion to share the fun with... Are there any camping forums with younger singles?

Be sure to check out the "Loners On Wheels" website. Great group of mostly retirement age folks and at least half are female. They have chapters in every state. You will fit right in. Happy Trails.

Thanks to all who weighed in. Helpful info and encouragement. Oh thanks for the bd wishes too. Like the one that says if don't feel comfortable where I am move on. Have cell so will keep daily updates with kids. Fulltime shakedown in daughters yard. LOL. Easier to handle the Class C than a bigger one. Downsizing for sure.

. My wonderful wife and I fulltimed for over 40 years. She passed on rather suddenly in 09. We both discussed what would we do if that happened to her or me. Believe me, those promises go away with time.

I , like some, felt it was time to hang up the keys , as the love of rving and fulltiming left with her. I transgressed from 40ft fiver to land and a huge house.

What a mistake !!!!! Here I sit in a big house and Im trying my best to divest myself of it and get back out there where I feel good. Although I snowbird 9 months of the year, it is not the same.

I suggest to you , at this time in your life, mistakes are miniscule to enjoying the time left. Do what your HEART wants you to do to be happy . Good luck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I was 70 and my wife had died 5 years ago, I struggle with "where to retire". The kids lived in TN and the stick home was in OH. So I pretended that I had died. Got rid of the stuff as if I had died and went on line and found two good campground membership with low annual maintenance cost and a low resale price. All I wanted was access to C2C, RPI and AOR.

Bought a used TT, less investment than a MH and less problems if I should die 1,000 miles from the kids. Now my yearly living expensive are about $3,000 for camping fees - I like to boondock and stay at Federal campgrounds NP COE BLM FS, $3,000 for food - I do not eat out much - and $3,000 for fuel. Add an extra $3,000 for budget overruns and I live well on my Social Security and have money left over to put in the stock market.

I PLAN ON DIEING IN MY RV. . :B .. . But before that I may become "trailer trash" at a campground closer to the kids if I need to see a doctor often.
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

In our eleven years of full timing we have met a lot of senior singles. Many of them join one of the singles groups and meet up with friends all over the country.

Another single senior here. I've been full time for 3 years next month. No regrets other than I should have done it sooner.

We met a retired judge who traveled with her dog. Go for it. Check with FMCA. They have a singles group that always looks like they're having fun at the rallies. Not sure if Good Sam has a singles group.

Go for it. Life is short. "If not now when".

My wife and I met a very interesting lady last year that was in her 80's and was traveling in an old Ford truck with a truck camper on the Blue Ridge Parkway alone. Her son drove the truck from Florida for her and then returned home and was going to meet her a month or so later and drive it home after she finished her trip. Her life story was very interesting and inspiring.

Be safe and enjoy.

I am enjoying the freedom RV'ing has/is giving me. I can visit family and friends, then take off and do whatever. I have downsized to 23' since my husband passed, but still enjoy my blessings and freedom. I can be alone in the RV or at home. Got to keep on login'. Stay safe, if you feel uncomfortable in a new camp, move on.

We have come across several senior singles in our travels. If you haven't done so already, you might want to check out Escapees because they have a really large Single group.

Double ditto.

I might add that you should let your relatives know where you are each day and leave your relatives' contact info at the office "just in case". Simple common sense makes the adventure so much easier.

A MOST BLESSED HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU TOO!
