Slammers

We've been at this fulltiming thing now in our 14th year. Given that we've been in close proximity, even boondocking, close to someone for at least half of that time, what's up with the slamming?

Slamming RV doors. Slamming car/truck doors. Slamming outside cabinet doors. Slamming Motorcycle compartments (yep 20+ times in the last 3 days). I don't get it. ALL of those entities can be closed quietly without disturbing anyone. I can close the door to my F-250 without making a discernible noise 2' away.

Do you all just want attention or do you just not get that this could conceivably bother other people?

Please think and stop it!

In all actuality, excess slamming and general mistreatment does damage to things. People who gently close doors, cabinets, turn switches (like the fan and a/c switches in the car) have things that last longer and have more value in the end. Abusing things does just that, makes them useless with time. That's why you see the ads or signs that say, "gently used".

This is the only downside about a class "B" RV -- the slide/slam sound of the main entrance door. Most other rigs, I can hold the handle partway open so there is no noise opening/closing it.

As for alarms, the one nice thing about Ford factory installed alarms... no beeps unless you press the lock button on the remote while the vehicle it is locked, then it will honk the horn once. I usually lock my vehicle by hitting the "7/8" and "9/0" buttons on the door keypad. No noise except the moving of the door lock actuator mechanisms.

You know there was once a day when you could use something called a "KEY" to lock the vehicle.

I drove my brothers 2014 F250 this year. We stopped for gas. The truck locked itself. When I got back into it to drive I used the key. Everything was fine until I put the key into the ignition. Then all heck broke loose. There was lights flashing, and horns and beepers going. As everyone stared at us I had a thought and I pushed the unlock button on the key.... Everything got quiet. You can't unlock anything with a key anymore. You need a computer chip to do it.

I generally try to use "about the right amount of force" when closing doors and see no need to slam them...

...that being said, I am often surprised that I leave a door slightly ajar...usually the dome light doesn't go off.

With cars, they are a bit air-tight these days so as you are shutting the door- there's a brief bit of air pressure fighting against you.

So, I'm sure there's a bunch of folks that just don't get it...on the other hand, I'm sure there's some folks who slam because they have a valid worry that the door won't close.

I can take a certain amount of slamming but that BEEP BEEP every time that a person goes to and leaves their vehicle they have to set and disarm that "blanking" alarm.

Its Slam,BEEP BEEP then return BEEP BEEP open, Slam BEEP BEEP. Over and over and over.........................

That's my cripe to. If they push the lock button on the door before they slam it, then it will not beep beep.

My DH slams our RV door occasionally & when he does it drives me nuts. He doesn't do it all the time so I just have to believe his mind is elsewhere.

I just wonder what tenters are slamming in particular:h.

It's the dang sleeping bags and mosquito netting banging and rustling all hours of the night. Can't hardly hear if my generator is still running...

Now that's a good one:B

Can't say I've minded it from a neighbor, but my daughter is a slammer, and it drives me crazy. I'm constantly on her about slamming stuff. Mostly because I'm the guy who has to fix everything. A little lube on the trailer door latch goes a long way to an easy close. You will have to re-educate on a regular basis, though. I can pull the trailer door shut with two fingers from 2" away and still she slams. I've gotten a little freaky on her several times, just makes me crazy the disreguard for wear and tear. I have enough stuff to do already.

On the first floor of a three level motel, slamming suitcases on the floor, slamming b/r doors, slamming armoire doors, slamming entrance doors, pound pound of heels while walking across the floor, dropping of shoes, etc.

Oh, pardon me, I no longer have to listen to this motel slamming because now I travel by RV! :B

Wishing you slam less travels.
