Something humorous or silly that you've done camping

Sitting at work thinking about camping instead of working. I started thinking about some of the silly things I've done camping, so I figured it would be fun to see what others have done.

One of mine.
We were always tent and popup campers. Finally I bought my current trailer. On our maiden voyage I stopped at the local Walmart, parking well away from the store, to check the hitch (because I was a bit nervous). As I opened the drivers door to get back in the Suburban my son cries out that he needs to go pee.

So I grab him from the car and we run across the parking lot while I'm picturing the layout of Walmart so we can go through the door closest to the bathrooms. After he's finished we walk back across the parking lot.

I swear I was almost all the way back to the Suburban before I noticed the shiny new travel trailer with a fully functional bathroom hitched up to it and my wife standing there with a quizzical look on her face. :B

Years ago in one of our first pop ups. Our son got wedged between the end of the bunk and the canvas sidewall which was only attached with bungee cords. He managed to slide out between them while in his sleeping bag. Never even woke up when he hit the ground. We went out and loaded him back into his bed..

On our very first camping night we were in a rented popup in Colorado. Earlier we heard a bunch of older teenagers talking loud and having a very audible good time. This was about the time the hippy groups were getting started. My wife and I were in sleeping bags that were zipped together on the converted dinette. Our daughter was in her sleeping bag and was bunker higher than us. She rolled off her bunk onto my wife who thought she was being attacked. It got overtly crowded in the zipped together sleeping bags. Being battered and bruised by my wife was not a good way to be wakened. This incident still gets talked about around the campfire 45 years later.

A few years ago we were camping with a large group of friends and as usual we'd have a pot luck dinner on the Sat night. Our contribution was a large ham but as I began to prepare I realized it was a bone-in ham and was way too large to fit in any of the pots we had. I popped over to my neighbour to see if he might have anything I could use to cut through the bone. Coincidentally he happened to own an electrical contracting business, towed with his work truck, and would therefore often leave a lot of his tools in the truck. Into the back of the truck he went only to pop out moments later with the biggest, baddest reciprocating saw I'd ever seen, saying "Will this work?" Ummmm, yeah that'll work! :B

While camping at Disney World my son developed and allergic reaction to an antibiotic. He woke up fussing at 2am, covered with Target Lesions and we freaked out. Had to unhook and haul ass to a hospital. When we left the park, we realized we had no idea where a hospital was. Drove a bit looking for a road sign and found a fire truck inspecting a resort under construction. They gave us directions.

Enjoying reading the stories.

Too many years ago, two on my sons and I were out looking at new pop-ups at a local dealership. The salesman and the three of us were all inside a unit when it began to roll - no one had chocked the wheels! We ended up rolling about 15 feet into a shallow ditch. No harm, no fowl - everyone was ok and the salesman was shaken up and very embarrassed.

Had a replacement starter battery. When I opened the box, it came with the battery and vials of acid to add to the cells. So, I started doing basic safety precautions, like a hose with running water nearby, safety glasses, clothes and so on. Had some people from a nearby campsite wonder what I was doing, and they couldn't figure out if I was fixing a battery or making meth, until I got the battery acid in the cells, sealed it up, and put it in my generator.

Great stories!

When my aunt and uncle came to visit us after their Alaska trip, everything was fine till they left. We lived in the country (woods) with a 1/4 mile driveway. They werenโ€™t daunted and the visit went quite well (unless you count the thousands of slides they showed us on the wall). On their way out of our driveway turning onto the township road - their 31 foot Airstream slipped into the 3 foot deep ditch on the side of the road. We were embarrassed that it happened, but I did take pictures. A tow truck pulled them out.

One time we were camping up in Canada and DH locked the keys in the truck. My keys and our emergency cell phone were in my purse - in the truck. We walked a mile or so to the ranger station and it was closed. Thank goodness there was a pay phone outside the office and we called AAA, not sure if they could help us as we were not in A. They said CAA would help and it only took a couple of hours till they came and opened our door. Now, whenever I get out of the truck I have my purse in my hands. And we have spare keys for everything hidden on the camper.

These humorous things happened in the 80s and 90s. Weโ€™re on top of things now... :W

Many years ago my wife and I along with our then 3-year old twins would frequently boondock with our 13' TT on a paper company wood lot about an hour from home. The section we were in was not scheduled for logging for at least another 15 years, and we had never seen another person in the area in all the times we had been there. The little trailer did not have a bathroom, just a port-a-potty tucked in a cabinet, so given the we thought complete privacy, we would use the outside shower for family showers. On one such occasion, we had just finished wetting everyone down and soaping up, when we heard a loud *COUGH* from the front of the trailer. As we quickly turned to look, two elderly women "birders" in full birding outfits were standing there frozen in shock! One of the women quickly recovered and stepped back behind the front of the trailer, but the other one just stood there with her mouth open. After a few seconds, we heard the first woman say, "Come away now, Agnes!". And after a few more seconds, "NOW, Agnes!", while tugging on the other woman's arm until she finally turned and left. We never saw them again, nor did we ever see anyone else there in all the years we camped in the same spot. Ever since, whenever one of us takes a little too long to react to something, the other will just say, "NOW, Agnes!", and we laugh about it all over again. ๐Ÿ™‚

The wife and I were camping in a state park in Panama City Florida. We had been out all day and I wanted to take a shower. My wife wears long dresses and usually hangs them in our shower. I am 6'4" and our shower is pretty small so if the camp ground has decent showers, I usually use them instead of taking all her dresses out of our small TT shower.

It's dark out and I go to the camp ground showers. I get all lathered up with soap and have shampoo in my hair and all of a sudden the water stops. I am completely covered in soap. I wait about 10 minutes and then get dressed (after toweling off as much soap as I can) and go back to the TT. Wife is laughing at me as I pull all her dresses out of the shower. Luckily I had some water in the fresh water tank and finished my shower. Right after I got out of the shower, dried out the walls and floor and hung all her dresses back in the stall, the water came back on. I now always make sure I have at least a 3rd of a tank of water in my fresh water tank when we travel!

One of our first trips, I woke up short of breath and coughing! :E

We'd forgotten to turn the propane on (we each thought the other had done it), and it was cold. As a result, Maya, the 28lb Maine Coon Cat, had crawled into bed, curled up on my chest, and was nonchalantly flicking her tail across me face. :S

We were camping on Cape Cod at a camping rally - first camping trip of the season. Went in to change my shirt and realized I left my clothes bag at home. Luckily our friends were coming down later in the day, so they broke into our house and retrieved my clothes. When they got to the rally one of the guys was wearing my undies on his head. I do not forget my clothes now. ๐Ÿ™‚ Agnes

When I was a much younger man we had a very well worn popup.

The screens needed replaced years earlier but there was never money to do it. They became fragile as a soap bubble.

My wife was infamous for crowding me in her sleep.

She crowded, I rolled...........through the screen onto the ground.

37 years later we are still married, and still struggle with bed control.:B

Our cat could easily open the screen door, so our friends and friends' kids were well-versed in moving the handle across the SCREEN door to prevent the cat from escaping. One day 6 year-old Scotty asked to go to the playground and I said fine: it's 30 yards away. It was cool out, so as I let him out, I of course closed BOTH doors, whereby Scotty dutifully put the handle across and ran over to the playground. I opened the window and shouted for several minutes before he heard me and came back. You can't get out.

Our first camper was a Jayco Kiwi 17 footer, toilet was actually in the shower. On one of our first trips we stopped so the DW could tinkle. I waited until I thought she was roughly mid-squat and I tapped the gas, then the brake, barely moved a foot but enough to hear a good 'thump'. My timing was perfect, the next couple hours on the road was not. :B
That was 15 years ago, she still makes me hand her the keys before she uses the bathroom !
