I have used Rust Kutter from Tractor Supply. It converts the rust to a black substance that you just leave on and then paint over if you wish. I used it on my trailer frame several years ago and painted over it with black Rustoleum paint and it still looks the same today as when I did it. Our trailer spends at least three months in the salt air of Florida every winter so I would say the stuff works well! ๐ I applied it with a roller but they also sell a spray can. You do need to wear a respirator mask though as the fumes are quite strong when working under and around the framework.
