After our last trip the family sat down and broke it to me that they are done Rving. I've been camping for 46 years and this probably is just ending one chapter and opening another. So it's time to sell. I tried Craig's List and got one semi interested hit and many scams that strung me along for a week until just stating that they'll buy it sight unseen. So I guess it's time to pay for a more legitimate site. Where do you look when searching for class A gassers? I'm thinking RV Trader but figured I ask here first.

Disagree, mainly for these reasons: 1) The unit is not necessarily going to sell faster at a dealer's than through a private sale. 2) Consignment is good business for the dealer, not the seller. 3) A consignment vehicle on a dealer's lot can be subject not only to more wear and tear from people tromping in and out (decreasing its value even further and providing even less $ to the seller) but also to vandalism in an unsecured lot.

X2 And Consignment units are the Red-Headed Step Child of any Dealers lot. There is little profit in them and less Commission for the sales staff. They often languish at the far back of the lot with deflated tires and cant be started. No, keep it looking good and run-able and sell it yourself.

I bought our's off craigs list this spring. It was priced correctly, and sold quickly.

Same for me. Probably could have gotten more but it was worth not having to show it and go through all the paper work. If you go this route make sure your insurance company will cover it while for sale at a dealer's lot.

I think that using CL eliminates a lot of people. I never look there for anything. I have window shopped RVs on rvtrader and camper wold and even eBay.. And always end up actually shopping and buying at dealers.
IMHO the dealer is the way to go, because most people need financing and of these people, most probably go through a dealer to get the financing (since dealers can shop around for financing from multiple banks/ etc). Also the dealer will be the one doing the marketing as well, so not your money and time on that ( or your time being spent on fielding questions and showings); seems to me that 10% is worth the price to not have to deal with the stress of trying to sell a large ticket item

I've bought 2 and sold one on CL in the last 3 years. Most of the ones I do inspections on are off CL. There are scammers there, but the format of the scam is usually the same and are easily recognized (after the first one).

The trick to selling on CL is to price the rig right. It needs to be a little high because everyone buying on CL expects a lower price than advertized. Putting "as-is", "firm" or "no negotiating" are just a challenge to the CL bargain hunters.

I have sold both a cruising/racing sailboat and a motorhome on Craig's list.
Take lots of pictures. Don't use the ones that are out of focus and dark.
You can do both phone and E-mail, but have your BS detector tuned up first.
I still have the bogus check I was sent for the boat. I keep it as a reminder.

Sold my unit one year ago.
Tried web sites, Craig's list,etc hand only scams reply. Finally took it to Camping World and it sold in 4 weeks. If you are serious about selling, put the unit in the hands of a dealer.

Just temporary. My wife and I both work full time and the kids are teens. If I don't use it enough I risk rodent invasion and weather wear. We were actually considering building a pole barn to house it. Now I save the money I would have spent on the barn. The kids want to go far so it looks like we'll use the money from the rv on flying vacations. Wife talks about downsizing everything after both kids are in college and she retires in 4 years. I have 8 more years before I retire and we get another rv.
