Let's see poor or dead? I'm already poor. Don't care to be dead at this time.
In that case you will be poorer..I dont want to be dead either, I doubt if any really poor people are driving Rv's If your really poor you cant afford one.Nor the fuel for one. When I made that comment I was referring to your lawyers who will defend you in court. Even if your found not guilty It will cost between 30,000-50,000 dollars to defend someone in a self defence case. I know "better to be tried by 12 then be carried by 6"...just sayin...This argument could go on forever I'm ending my portion of it now.Think whatever you want..I hope none of us has to prove either point..
Happy trails and drive safe

This isn't a book that gives advice state to state, but I do recommend people read this book when figuring out a self defense strategy.

I am not related to the author, but just stating my opinion of something to read other than the same usual gun stuff that pops on this forum.

Asking legal questions of anyone other than a licensed attorney is a really bad idea. Google the topic, read up on it, and stay away from asking in open internet forums like this one. There isn't a single soul here who will stand up in front of a judge with you and defend you. But I'll wager folks with opinions about the topic will flood out of the woodwork.

And that's just my opinion. You want to stay out of prison; ask somebody who knows, an attorney, not the faceless hordes on the internet.

I fully agree. I have a CWP but leave it home when I go on a trip.(my gun that is) Where you can carry and where you cant is very very confusing. Lots of states (Ilinois) for one if you have a weapon in your vehicle it must be dismantled and locked in a box in the trunk. If your illegal in any state and get caught. You will go to jail. If you are legal and have to shoot someone in self defense you will be poor for the rest of your life and you can take that to the bank......

Your carry right have already been violated in every state.

Know the law, follow the law, and stay out of trouble.
only if you dont have the balls to fight it like i said i carry i donot register any of them

Anytime you use a firearm in any state, you can expect to need a lawyer. To me, it is still worth the chance to protect myself and my family.

I have a concealed carry permit, but rarely carry. I do, however, always have one close. I will always tell an officer I have one in the car if I am stopped. When in the motorhome, it stays in the drawer next to the bed - I don't think that would be a problem to any cop. If traveling through Canada, I do not take a firearm on the trip. Just common sense.

My thanks to the Moderators for not over-moderating this thread.
y'know, I haven't needed a spare tire in years, but I have one in every vehicle.
The only place I have needed a fire extinguisher in the last 30+ years was at home, but we have several of them in vehicles.
I have never needed more than a 1 inch adhesive bandage when camping, but we carry a large first aid kit.
One of the more common comments about many subjects is "It is just good (or cheap) insurance!" Yet, many people refuse to grant that a weapon may fall into that category!
I know of one RV park that we might have stayed in for three months several years ago, but in their rules not only do they have the dreaded "10 year" clause, but they firmly state that NO firearms may be carried in any RV on their premises. We did NOT stay there, even though at the time there were no firearms on board. I'm sure we were not missed.
It is, quite simply, a matter of personal choice. At any given time, I might or might not have a weapon. I do not advertise it either way. My neighbors will never know.

My simple solution is to avoid any state that prohibits my second amendment right to keep and bear arms just as I avoid businesses who prohibit the legal carrying of firearms.

To the original poster... you are good to CC in Texas, go to shooting ranges and even go hunting if interested and want to spend the money on an out of state hunting license..

While I tend to agree, and do practice the above with regularity, it's not entirely practical all the time. Driving around certain states makes a trip pretty expensive. Principle has it's price and my pocketbook isn't bottomless.
It is very easy to avoid any state or business... just don't go there. I've lost nothing in any of those states that I feel the need to pickup.

Back in the late 60's I drove a 1957 Chevy through every one of the 48 contiguous states; sleeping in the car, on roadside park tables and under the stars on a bedroll. I've already seen the best of what they offer. Texas and the states around me have more than a lifetime of things to do and see without my venturing into places where I don't fit in.

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6

I'd never take a life with out knowing full well I was about to loose mine or my family's.
then the law be dammed. I'm pulling the trigger. And my gun would not be shown until then.

I do not own anything that is worth taking a life for, but when I am certain me or my family is in danger I will defend my self.

My best advice on cruising with guns is simply this, keep them out of site until you are ready to use them for self protection. and don't pull it unless you are prepared to use it.

We fulltimed for 10 years without a gun in the rig. If I would have carried anything it would have been a shotgun because I do enjoy bird hunting. If you plan to go to Alaska via highway don't even think about carrying handguns in the rig. It's not worth the trouble with Canadian law enforcement.

Please, no flaming here. But I don't think the western U.S. is all that dangerous as compared to anywhere else. Particularly in back country. We met a lot of hikers and they weren't armed with anything but knife and/or hatchet so they could build a fire.

I found the same thing last year when I pulled my TT 8,000 miles in 8 months. And we stopped at truck stops, rest stops, Casinos, Sams Club, Walmarts, etc. Never once had a need for a hand gun or even close to a need for it.

It's not the quantity of danger to be concerned with, usually, but the one time you need it.a good many answer as if you're not in a war zone, or most of Mexico is safe, I've never had a problem, etc.
It the one time you need it r feel you need it. Nothing more reassuring than a weapon you can handle, when facing possible assault robbery or worse. The Folks bantering about that we don't need firearms, usually mean just us. I don't like carry one. They are heavy but not as heavy as Policeman. Wild dogs, coyotes, rabid raccoons, and copperheads and rattlers are all a real potential threat. A snub nose with bird shot the first chamber or two and hot loaded hollow points, in the others.

I carry in the coach here in washington state, I load snake shot in the one on my belt on hikes in the eastern side of the state for obvious reasons.

we often go remote, you are your own protection more often than not. When we are remote off the grid we can legally set up our own targets and shoot til our hearts content.

The only law that gets most folks busted is you can not carry a loaded fire arm in a vehicle, unless you have a Concealed Weapons Premit, issued by a washington state police dept.
That does not apply to long guns, you get caught with a magazine in a rifle it is loaded no matter where the action is, (open or closed) It's $1500 bucks and confiscation of the vehicle and all property with in.
My pointsโ€ฆ.. know the law, obey it. be safe

Of course, the last paragraph under the Full list of states is wrong. You will go to jail in IL. CA, and NY if you have a weapon no matter what your excuse is-

"Federal law expressly provides that persons may carry a firearm in their vehicle while traveling through another state provided that the possession of the weapon is legal in both the states of origin and destination and the weapon is unloaded and carried in the trunk of the vehicle or a locked container other than the glove box. See 18 U.S.C. 926a"

That's worth knowing. nice reference.
But read the first sentence.

"Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof,"

You are there, you are subject to their laws,

The highlighted portion is the key......you can not stop as in stay at a CG, motel, hotel, catch some zzzzz in a rest area etc. Once you do you are no longer in transit and are immediately subject to the gun carry/transport within state laws.
Is it time for your medication or mine?
