Here's the scenario you have your bbq, bikes, camp chairs etc. out on your camp site.
Do you lock or store your belongings if going for a walk, attending a CG event, swimming or going sightseeing (leaving the CG for the day)?
So do you lock or store? And which ones?

Just wondering what do you do?

When my brother and I were tent camping a bear knocked over the cooler and ate, among other things, a dozen eggs and the steaks we were going to have for dinner that night. And I will swear to the day I die that just before she left we then heard the pffffzzzzzz sound of a can of beer being opened.

That was the last time the coolers ever got left outside ... we were much younger and stupider (naive) back then!

We lock the bikes at night and the generator stay's locked to a tree 100% of the time (along with the spare gas can). The cooler(s) always go in the truck at night as we tend to camp where there are black bears and I want my food and beer to stay with me. We tend to keep the site picked up too. Bikes and toys and whatnot are not strewn about. Makes it less inviting for other people to liberate your stuff.

We've never had a problem in 20 yrs of camping starting with tents up to a large 5er.

Didn't know that bears like beers :B As previously mentioned coolers can grow legs had mine stolen at a beach once, to bad for them there wasn't any beer left it was all drunk, just melted ice, and empty cans lol

I would imagine a cooler would be the first thing to grow legs. It's not too much work to put it right inside the door. Outta sight, outta mind. Our new camper has one of those nifty Toylok gadgets screwed to the frame. We'll give it a try with our scooters.

Thanks for all the replies, read every reply and some good points have been brought up such as tent and pup campers, sorry never thought of you folks and I started out as a tent and pup camper many many years ago. But back then we hardly ever locked our homes unless we left for a couple of days.
Times have changed, glad it's not like that at CG's.

Not really, people have changed. Times are the same.

I don't lock my house either. I'm 1/2 mile from the nearest neighbor. It is a waste of time to lock the house if someone wants in they are just going to kick the door in. All locks do is keep your friends out.

Good point 'people have changed'.

Only lock the coach when physically leaving the cg. Everything else is as is.

DH locks the door (out of habit mainly )when we leave. He puts his fishing stuff in the truck and locks that up. Otherwise everything is left out during the day. At nite we tend to fold the chairs and put under the edge of the Hybrid ..no wet bottoms in the am from the dew lol...

never lock anything away other than my wallet or other personals. bikes etc. are left out but 'put aside' and not right there for the taking. over 20 years RVing and never had a theft. ...well the darn raccoons got into hubby's cooler and ate all his shrimp for fishing, they did leave him the tails tho. ๐Ÿ™‚ Theiving critters!

We were at a CG in Oregon a few years ago. We bought 2 large loads of firewood and unloaded it next to the trailer then went for a sightseeing drive. Got back to find every last piece of firewood was gone. The CG office insisted they had nothing to do with it so I drove around the entire CG of around 300 sites looking for it, staring intently at everyone's pile of wood. Sure there was no chance of finding it and it all looks pretty much the same, but I was so p*ssed off. Who the heck steals someone's firewood?

The CGs we now frequent are quite safe and we leave stuff all the time as do others. We only lock the TT if we're out for a walk to the far side of a CG or out for a drive.

If it would spoil my camping trip to lose something, like a bike or a generator, I put it away or lock it up at night, or when I leave the campground. I worry less.

Everything else stays out.

I want to enjoy camping. I'm only just paranoid enough to avoid having that disrupted, and no more.

I don't leave much out anyhpw but if someone needs my 20$ chairs or my 45$ charcoal grill then I guess they need it more than I do. As for my trailer it doesn't get locked. I have 2 65lb Rottweiler mix dogs that will meet you at the door.
