What is the best BBQ grill

I had to toss our old BBQ grill this past trip. I was hoping to get through the season and replace next season but it wasn't to be. I have been looking at the little portable Weber Q1200's. Does any of you guys use this grill for just the weekend trips or do you know any others you would recommend?

washing machine tub. we use it as a firepit, have an insert with tray to hold charcoal for grilling, between the tub and dutch ovens we almost never use the propane grill.

And we fill the washing machine tub with wood before we leave on a trip. gives on huge amounts of heat, no smoke and doesn't use much wood. Added screw on legs to raise it up when needed. A weber round grill is usually a perfect fit for the top for grilling.

Used one for years, just be sure its stainless. Porcelain can pop off when hot.

yes SS is ideal. However, my experience with mutiple porcelen units between myself and many campers is that they will occasionally pop a small piece of porcelin, but not enough to rule one out. But then they will eventually rust out and don't look as nice as SS.

Just remember, the best maytag fire pits have aged for decades in a laundry room!

and with the decline in top load washers they are getting harder and harder to find. front loades don't have vent holes or a bottom.

Yes slight decrease. It will cook a little slower, but I tend to be a Tim the Toolman type when BBQing anyway, so I think my wife does not mind that even when I turn it on full blast, I no longer do the black on the outside and rare in the inside method of cooking.

+1 on the Hasty Bake. I take my legacy with me, of course I have a toy hauler and can easily roll it up in the back. Never tried the ranger,.....might have to some time.
Nothing beats charcoal. But if I wanted a good gas grill, the Weber Q200 would be my pick. I might get me one yet. I've used my buddies and it did a great job. So many gas grill are either on or off. No real ability to adjust the temp down to a controllable level.
The Weber cooked even, no hot spots, with excellent temp control. Compact and solid made too.

Not very well known, Hasty Bake 380 Ranger charcoal grill. I also have the Legacy for grilling at home. Very good quality grills and cook excellent but on the expensive side.

We have an old Weber Baby Q I picked up second hand, added the cart and side tables. We just love it and even our visitor this fall was nice enough to leave it alone ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, I do have a GMG Davy Crockett. It weighs about 60 pounds so I consider that to be sturdy. I think it's a great size for us travelers. If you go to the 'cooking' forum, and do a search, you will pull up several discussions about pellet grills in general and the Davy Crockett in particular.

It seems to work best for slower cooking - ribs, pork roast, tri-tips. I like the fact that you can set a cooking temperature, stick the attached meat thermometer in what you're cooking, then go about your business for the day (FOOTBALL !). The wireless option allows you to keep tabs on the grill from anywhere.

Pellet grills are not perfect - They need electricity to work, and you will not get the strong smoky flavor that is normal with a mainstream smoker. But I really like the convenience of mine. The fact that I can set it to an exact cook temp anywhere from about 185 - 450 degrees in 5 degree increments and it will hold that temp is great. Just like a household oven, but with that great smoke flavor added to the food.

There are several brands of pellet grills out there. If you decide to get one, make sure to get one with a digital readout and that also allows small cook temp changes - as stated above, I can adjust in 5 degree increments.

Been using my pellet grill for several years now and I have become a big fan of them. I also carry a small Weber charcoal grill for burgers and steaks. ALTHOUGH, the next time I'm doing steaks for a crowd, I'm going to use my pellet grill.

Go to the GMG home page and pull up the Davey Crockett and you may change your mind. This is their tailgater model. The legs fold up to become handles. Runs off 110v, 12v, or a free standing 12v battery.

Dang, that is a nice little BBQ. Is this what you have? How sturdy is it? I already loving the idea of setting this up to go and sipping coldies while the air fills with the sweet smell of apple wood smoke and BBQ spices.

We use a Baby Q and it works well for the two of us. The only downside is that you can't turn it down low enough to slow cook and as with all single burner grills, you can't indirect cook.

Weber makes a good grill. I have two full size Webers , One is 23 years old and still going strong with the original burners, although I have replaced the crossover tube and grills.

If talking propane the Weber Q series can't be beat. I have cooked hundreds of meals on our BabyQ. Just the other day I laid it on the ground with the lid open and cast iron grate removed and blasted everything with the pressure washer. Let it bake in the sun for a while then hooked up and lit the first try. Owned it since 2005, the burner and cast iron grate is in excellent condition.

I dumped the regulator and hooked to RV quick connect.

I would like to do this with my Weber Q. How did you convert it to use with the RV supplied propane and what parts are needed. tks

Buy the length of propane hose you want with ends if possible i added mine. You will need one male quick connect with 1/4" make threads for BBQ along with a 1/8 male x 1/4 female fitting to screw directly into BBQ where regulator has been removed.

Pretty straight forward project. Another option take a copy of this pic to your local hardware/farm supply they can fix you up.

Thanks. I use a sidekick grill so I already have the propane line to connect to a quick connect on a grill and the RV so just need the parts you mentioned to convert the Weber. Appreciate the help.
