Ok. I'm fairly controlling when it comes to the truck and trailer and towing it. I want to do everything. Well my wife has been saying she wants to learn all about it as she might want to take it something with her girlfriends without me. Ya'll didn't see but I just had the proverbial shudder.

Anyway, We just went to OKC to camp for a week and my wife wanted to drive. She had mentioned it a while back so I had her drive a little bit near home. She did good..

On this trip she drove the whole way up there. Not really that far. She drove a bit over 3 hours or there abouts. I have to say she did just fine. I was of course a bit nervous as I am not good at not being in control of the towing, but she's good.

When we got to the campground I quizzed her on everything that needs done. She needs more work there. We'll get her more reps in. But she's not bad.. looks good too..

Driving is the easy part; hitching & unhitching are the hard part. I drive, DH does the hitching & unhitching. Works well. 🙂

My wife too does it all! She is adept at towing whether it is the boat or the TT or anything else. She drives a standard, pilots the boat, the jet skis, rides her own motorcycle... Yep, just about anything. It has made growing older soooooooo much easier and less stressful. It has also enabled us to do some extraordinary adventures and trips. We have sometimes driven 40 hours straight through without stopping by switching off every couple of hours. Now our kids are grown and married and all the DILs have learned from "Mom" and do it all as well. Life is easier when everything is shared.

a friend of ours, she does all the driving and towing. he does the set up. he is medically not able to drive since he blacks out, so they still camp, just she does the driving.

Now teach her the first thing to do is get out a lawn chair for you and prepare a cool beverage for you......... If that flies, you've got it made.

It really is nice to know now that I don't have to do all the driving. I like the driving but sometimes you just get tired. Also this opens up a few more longer trips for us. There were some I just couldn't see driving all that way myself and our time is sometimes limited.

I really need to make a campground check list for all that needs done. Arriving and leaving.

She's a very patient driver. When we go skiing I'm a nervous wreck if we have to drive on ice or snow in the mountains. I'm a Texas boy, just not what I'm used to. She's got ice water in her veins when it comes to driving in that stuff. I always let her drive in it.

Sounds like you did a great job "letting go" and coaching her. Good for both of you!

That's so true.

For the past 20 or so years towing a TT my wife and I always trade of driving and think nothing of it. It really helps to avoid driver fatigue. Usually after every potty break or fuel fill up, we switch drivers when traveling any distance. And she very adept to backing into a campsite.:)

We were all beginner as one time, with a lot to learn through patience and more experience.;)

It is probably good that she knows how to do everything. What would happen if something happened to you while out camping and she needed to get the truck and tt back home? Better she be prepared and capable than trying to do it for the first time when stressed over your health and well being.

Any normally intelligent person can do this, with some proper coaching and practice. It's a skill, but it's not rocket science.

Sounds like you did a great job "letting go" and coaching her. Good for both of you!

Great idea to let her drive. Speaking as a man that got sick while camping and had no way to get the TT home. I whish DW would want to learn to tow it.

Well, I still have to teach her to back. She'll learn but it may take a while. And she did hook up the hoses. I got to stand back and watch. One of her favorite things to do is empty the tanks. She's like a kid. Just sits there and watches all the "stuff" drain away.
