Wish List to design better RVs

We haven't done this in awhile: a thread about our wish list for improvements in RV design in the hopes manufacturers will take notice and make a more practical and reliable RV. One suggestion from the past has begun to be offered - the hot water on demand water heater.

To get the ideas flowing, here's mine:
- More durable roofing: also stop cutting holes in the roof for AC units which make opportunities for leaking as the RV ages and makes the unit taller for air drag. Install them in the sides and use the floor ducting.
- Kitchen: two burner stoves as standard for more counter space. These are showing up more but it's not universal... yet:B
- Storage: modular closets/cabinets options. Think IKEA and let the customers create the configuration that suits them eg floor to ceiling tall or multiple short closets and everywhere in-between. This could be done easily with a designated wardrobe space in the floorplan. With twin beds the logical place is in between. :w
- Rear window: eliminate it. It's cold in winter and hot in summer, usually right over our heads in the bed. There's enough light in the bedroom which is for sleeping AND it can't be used for backing anyway.
-Fuel mileage: we're seeing improvements, thankfully but the class Cs need a fuel efficient gasoline option vs the diesels being used.

Any others?

Exactly!! Don't forget the microwave, tv and built in sound system too! (We don't "camp".) ๐Ÿ™‚

Great post!!

Have someone who actually cooks use the microwave/convection oven.

I'd like to show the designer of our RV, for example, that the oven door swings open in the wrong direction, so it's a real safety hazard while you are trying to get a hot dish out, around an open door in a narrow hallway, and down to the counter.

And because that oven is very high over the stove burners, it means the average height user has to reach way up to get hot food, possibly boiling liquids, and try to lower it without spilling just to see if it is done yet or to stir it while cooking.

Quite a maneuver! Really hated breaking my 50-year old irreplaceable square glass Corning ware lid while trying to get around that dang door.

(Note re the first post - our rear window behind the bed is the emergency exit, so I don't think it's going to disappear in future models.)

If you have a tv in rig

Make sure the couch ACTUALLY faces the tv for the times we do watch it.

4 RVs later and we finally have a couch facing the tv.

I wish they would double the price and lower the quality, NOT.

*2 burner cooktop--I have NEVER used the front burner on the 3-burner
*No oven---or at least offer the option
*Tall faucets--who DOESN'T want this???
*No more having the under bed storage cabinet extend halfway down the bed, so you can't reach the head of the bed
*Warmer color temp LED lighting
*Fewer roof penetrations
*Quieter air conditioners
*Optional entertainment centers
*More 12V and USB outlets
*Decent size sleeping spots for multiple adults---not just some to fit kids

We would like a bit more water pressure when using the fresh water tank.
More water in the hot water tank.

More counter space please! It doesn't work to cover the sink for more counter space when you need the sink too!
Agree completely with combo microwave-convection oven. Also agree with 2 burner stove. Make what most have now as options, not standard.
Someway, somehow, try to design a bedroom with drawer storage that is accessible even when the slide is in!
Do away with storage over the bed! Who can reach it without getting on the bed! I put stuff (towels, sheets, etc. up there that are a real pain to get to.)
Also completely agree that options should be available to NOT HAVE so many 'bells and whistles'.
Also, please don't call a bed 'walk-around' when no one bigger than a toddler could possibly fit between the wall and the bed! REALLY!!

YES, PLEASE !

Some people just don't want a TV or an outside kitchen.

X2. Keep it simple and reliable.

And, better MPG would be nice.

Eliminate to foo foo, TV, entertainment centers, etc. When we go camping we enjoy the peace and tranquility offered in the great outdoors. If I wanted to watch TV I should have stayed home.

More couples floorplans that have twin beds. I'm all for being cozy with my wife, but let's get real.

Even better a second separate sleeping area for night owls and/or snorers !

I like the smaller, 2 burner stove top idea. This is not 1966 any more. DW and I do like having an oven, but we are coming to the conclusion that a GOOD micro/convection unit will be "okay".

3 burner with oven is fine for "family" TT, but it would be nice to have a 2 burner on smaller TT. We used to take a toaster oven in our pop up. Big enough for cinnamon rolls for 4 in the AM !

More diesel options in Class C's and small A's.
Currently RV-less but not done yet.
