nail file for my dog?

I'm hoping to get some god advice from forum members.

We have no problem clipping our dogs' nails, but we have on dog that seem really pointy. I want to buy a doggy nail file. I'd like one that won't bog down when I use it. Electric plug in, or rechargeable lithium would be fine. Anyone using one that they can recomend? Thanks in advance

I use dog nail grinder. Found one in this article ***Link Removed*** Its is called Lucky tail nail grinder. It works so well, makes trimming process easier and less painful for a dog.

I have an 3-speed dremmel from Harbor Freight Tools. If your dogs have long hair, be sure not to get the hair caught up in the dremmel. You can pull a woman's knee high stocking over the nails up to the foot to get the hair out of the way, exposing just the nails. On my small dogs, I use the dremmel on low. When I had bigger dogs, I used it on medium. You can buy replacement sanding rounds at Home Depot or Lowes.

LOL! It hasn't happened in years but when we first started using a dremmel it did happen once. And yes, it was QUITE the challenge after that! Years later we have no issues.

I let my dog run on our gravel drive way to his heart's content. Not only does he get the exercise he need but I don't have to ever worry about his nails.

My vet uses a Dremel and for what it's worth Dremel actually makes a version specifically for pet nail grooming. The model # is 7300-PT, it's cordless and cost $25 at home depot.

If you check your local beauty supply, a cordless dremel will likely be less expensive than a pet supply. For a large dog, though, you will need the pet version.

It sounds like dremel is the way to go. I didn't know they made a rechargeable dremel. I'll look into that.

I use a dremel also. Both of ours tolerate but do not like having their nails clipped. They do not mind the dremel. I always use a new sanding wheel and have never had a problem. It is really great on their dew nails.

Depends on the size of the dog. For smaller dogs I prefer a rechargeable (battery operated) Dremel. They only last a couple of years or so, but you can pick one up at WalMart for less than $25. So it's not a huge expense. The plug in Dremels are IMO too powerful for use on small dogs. If you have a larger dog with thick nails you probably need the extra power. Either of them can work for medium sized dogs, but I usually prefer the rechargeable Dremels for those dogs. I'd rather spend a few extra seconds per nail with a less powerful tool and have more control. The trade off is well worth it to me.

I have our dogs nails trimmed. The groomer uses a plug in Dremel. It works well. I should probably buy one myself.
