Freezer to cold

Any ideas as to why the freezer would start getting so cold that the food inside bags have started icing up. Have cut it down as low as possible without causing refrigerator from getting to warm.....Have been in cool weather for the past month in the northeast....

thanks

X2. a perceived problem of temps too cold on an absorption fridge is pure folly.

Having to defrost freezer is a different issue than your original post about icing of food in storage bags.

Excessive frost build up is due to opening freezer door frequently and window shopping OR the door seals are leaking allowing warm air to be pulled in.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Most RV/absorption refrigerators have the thermostat in the refrigerator only.

And, yes if you have a question about temperature in either refrigerator or freezer, put a thermometer in and verify actual temperature.

True...

If you want your freezer compartment get colder leave the fridge door open for a while.. Opening it and getting a cold beer every hr will further cool the freezer compartment.

I have dual wireless temp transmitters to monitor fridge temps House and Rig.

Yup. Use these, also.

Now that you have a thermometer as everyone told you you need, the temperature in your freezer should be very close to ZeroยฐF and the temperature in the fridge should be between 33ยฐF and 38ยฐF.

BTW - Milk will stay fresh for about 6 weeks when stored at 33ยฐF.

Those wireless thermometers are great. Ordered a set from Amazon. Didn't work. Sent back no hassle and fortunately decided to order replacements. This set is faultless. It's good to re-set the High/Low feature once the fridge has cooled down.

So far, bought 5 sets, 2 for us and 3 for christmas presents.. They all still work.
Found that the tab for the + battery lead can be just a little shy of making good contact. Found that on one transmitter.

I keep a log of fridge temps along with all aspects of solar charging/amp hours/battery voltages etc.... I reset my fridge thermometers daily for hi/lo. A great feature!

DW taught me long ago to tightly seal and remove air from any bags going into the refer. Grocery meats in those nice see through containers have a lot of air waiting to freeze. The containers don't make it into our freezer.

Uh, don't folks use a plug n play THERMOMETER anymore? Or maybe THERMOMETER has as many letters as HYDROMETER and therefore is shunned. Just sayin'

The more air you get out of the bags the less frost will form in them.

Frost in the freezer bags does not mean the freezer is too cold. That is simply moisture from the food that had frozen.

Air in storage bags has moisture and it will ice up

A faulty or fallen down thermistor (temp sensor in food section) would cause items (milk, eggs, vegetables etc.) in food section to freeze.

Also you being in cold area refrigerator is more efficient at changing ammonia coolant state (liquid to vapor to liquid) so it stays a lot cooler.

x4 Sorry never heard of a freezer being too cold a refrigerator yes
