Need a battery. Never boondock. Recommendations?

My battery is toast, leaving our TT plugged into shore power has ruined our battery. So I need a battery, nothing to boon dock with but something to give us power to open the slide when arriving on the site, getting lunch at rest areas and the occasional power outage.

So what should I get that is fairly inexpensive. I assume I don't need a true deep cycle.

Also what should I do to keep the rv charging system from over charging?

I use a Battery Minder Plus on my house battery during storage. I turn the CB for the converter off and set the battery disconnect switch to disconnect. I did use the smart converter, PD9260, but found it used more current than the Battery Minder.

Do you have a timer on the converter output between the converter and the battery or is this a separate charger?
If separate, can you have an active converter and external charger connected at the same time?
I was concerned with overvoltage from the charger.

That's what I do. I'll leave it charging for a few days to make sure it's fully charged before I shut it off. Then turn it on every Saturday and off on Sunday to keep it up. I'll pull it out and equalize every three months or so.

If you don't already have a smart converter/charger, you could replace your current converter with one. It will keep the battery in top notch shape.

That is what I was thinking. I think I will add a quick disconnect and just switch to "on" the night before we go on a trip.

Group24 marine deep cycle from Wal-Mart. About $80.

Get in routine to keep your battery full of water. Check it monthly until you figure out how much water it uses. Plan on replacing every 3 or 4 years.
