I'm looking at an 08 F350 v10 6 speed manual.
I will be going from my 02 f350 7.3 automatic. I'm wondering if this will be a step up in performance, or backwards, or fairly equal. The v10 has more hp than my 7.3, but less torque. I am thinking the 6 speed should help this.

I have an 06 with the 6 speed, 4.30 gears. I love it. I have towed my 10k trailer all across the rockies. The best truck I have ever owned.

I believe that is a Job 1 then. There is a color difference on the coil packs. I can't remember which one is which. I think that black was Job 1 and the brown was Job 2. I'm sure someone will chime in, either that or check on Ford Trucks.com

Check and see when it was produced. The Job 1 trucks had the two piece plug and the Job 2 had the one piece. If it's a Job 1, get the dealer to throw in a plug change as part of the deal.

It was produced 04/07. I don't know if this is Job 1 or 2?

Lots of life left. It has 107,000 miles. Just replaced the tranny at about 103,000 miles.
The family is growing, and the supercab just keeps getting smaller.

A 2008 F350 v10 with a 6 speed manual. That unusual powertrain sounds like a winner to me.

If you like shifting, I think this would be a very appealing truck.

newer Ford V10, if you must leave the Dark side is likely a good choice. It is an engine in a Ford that most swear about rather than at! :B

I don't think that most automatic drivers, realize that most, manual transmissions become automatic after a while. I never really give it much thought anymore. It is also good theft protection!

I used to drive both commercial and medium duty farm trucks, 40 odd years ago. You're quite right, after awhile, shifting is quite automatic. 🙂

I saw some stats the other day, that apparently for North American drivers, under the age of 40 years old ...only around 10 % know how to shift a standard transmission.

To that I say...they don't know what they're missing.

LOL! Likely less than that! Both of my daughters first vehicle were sticks. Oldest lives in Ireland now so most cars there are still sticks. Youngest borrowes my truck from time to time to tow her horse trailer.

My 2009 6.8L with 4.10 does a great job. Towing mpg's around 9-9.5 and empty around town it gets 12-13 mpg's. With 362 HP and 457 Ft Lbs of torque coupled with the 6 sp/4.10 rear your performance will be good if you go that route.

Had 2008 F-350 CC SRW with 4:30 gears. Towed a 12000lb 5er for thousand of miles with no problems. Lots of power and torque. It is a small block and loves to rev so let er go.
