2012 Ram Exhaust/Engine brake question!

I am getting a "new to me" 2012 Ram 3500 to tow our 5er and I can't find any information about how the exhaust/engine brake works or is engaged or anything. I know in the older Dodge Rams there is a switch on the dash that engages it. I have done internet search's and have not found information about the 2012. Please help!

That's all you need to know. Push the button, let off the throttle, exh brake kicks on. Step on the peddle, turbo vanes open back up again.

I would add, keep the tow haul on ALL the time also. Keeps line pressures up.

Personal call there. I'll use Toe haul when empty sometimes for grade braking or to keep my gasser from jumping around gear to gear so much, but imo, it's not needed for poking around town or cruising the flatlands with no load on the truck.

Also, icbw, but I don't think t/h increases line pressure in the 68rfe. Rather it just changes the shift points and integrates downshifts with brake application more aggressively.

The link below is to the Ram web site and you can download the diesel supplement for the 2012 truck. No need to call, order, or wait for the manual.

I never use TH mode and the EB at the same time when not towing. Makes for a jerky drive thru town and anywhere else you need to be constantly slowing down.
I run the EB all the time when towing though. I also don't use TH mode with the EB when descending mtn passes. The truck always wants to slow down too much. So I just run the EB and use the gear selector. I only tow 9000lbs so maybe guys towing heavier get better use out of TH/EB at the same time.

Your gonna' love Cummins/Holset VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) turbo brake.
The Cummins uses VGT with fixed vanes on a sliding knozzle that opens and closes when needed.

Ford and GM diesel use the VGT (Varible Vane Technology) where the turbo vanes are variable and close or open as needed.

Both system are great for slowing down heavy loads off a hill or braking for stop signs or red lites around town towing or non towing.

Don't forget to also turn on the T/H any time the truck is driven. Makes the exhaust brake more effective.

Go to the ram website and you can request an owners manual for that year and model truck.

I did it when we purchased a used 2006 Ram mega cab a long time ago. Took a few weeks but got it.

Button on center of dash down low. Push to turn on and leave on all the time. This helps prevent soot buildup
There are a few web posts on how to rig it to be on all the time, and push button off.
