Just doing the one side. After discussion with the mechanic, It's not a common occurance in the 6.4. I'm going to gamble that I can get by without this problem until I get another truck. If I own a turd, I don't want to keep putting perfume on it. It's still a turd. If I thought I was going to keep the truck, I would put the $$$ into it to bullet-proof the motor. Either way, it's still a gamble.
The truck is supposed to be done sometime tomorrow (wed). Will probably head home the day after. Will keep everyone informed of the final results.

Keep defending fomoco Diesel engines. But show me any other high pressure diesel from the last 15 years that needs 5 grand in internal mods just to make it down the road in stock trim under 100kmi besides the 6.0 and 6.4?
Powderchokes blowing head gaskets has exactly zero to do with the epa unless you're blaming them for limiting what Ford was able to use for head bolts and gaskets.

Well it's nice to see how uninformed some are. This and the previous generations of "Ford Diesel" was a NAVISTAR diesel, that Ford bought and paid for to put in their trucks.(And subsequently sued them for and ditched them because of). Just like Dodge (does dodge still exist lol), and Government Motors. And all 3 brands had junk under the hood at various times in the past 10 years. My fleet involvement in the past 15 years tells me that they are all expensive, repair prone, and not reliable. Diesels only shine when compared to the garbage 50's tech that the domestics stuck with well past it's expiry date. The gas engines are thousands cheaper, operate just as long prior to the inevitable multi thousand dollar repair, and for a similar price, you can drop in a new one and still take a cruise with all the moey you saved.
I highly doubt that the people on the lengthy list of the Cummins high mileage club would agree with you.
