Here's a picture of Cadillac's new EcoBoost errr I mean new twin turbo, DI V6 engine.

Wonder how long will it take GM to put this under the hood of a truck?

When did Cadillac offer a dual carb option? I had a 64 Buick Wildcat that had dual 4 bbls.

The Cadillac V8 had single 4 barrel carbs in the '50's, but had dual quads ( 2 x 4barrel carbs) on the '57-'58 Eldorado and if I recall correctly there was a three cab setup...3 x 2 barrel carbs available in '59 for the '59 Cadillac. Think it was an option, with a single 4 barrel the normal state of affairs.

GM started offering multiple carbs on Chevy small block (2 x 4 bbl.), 348 W series (3 X 2 bbl.), Olds J2 option....3 x 2bbl. and Pontiac...3 x 2 bbl....in the mid to late '50's.

Think Buick in the early '40's had the first dual carb setup...called it the compound carb... 2 X 2 barrel...on their straight eight.

Going by memory, so I might be off a bit, but not too much.

Doesn't anyone remember when Cadillac came out with their 4-6-8 engine several years ago?

That one came out with huge hype talk of incredible gas mileage savings and just the right amount of power when needed...and was just as quickly put back to bed never to be heard of again.

Reference the 8-6-4 I think you meant to say "three decades ago" as in cica 1981. Never to be heard from again? It was a pioneer in cylinder deactivation that we have in many engines now. Did not work well in 81 I will give you that, but the technology is certainly relative today.
Remember it well Displacement on demand (DOD) those that owned one called it DUD.

Cadillac has come light years from converted Cavilier's to what they offer today.

Cadillac already has a 3.6 V6 Twin Turbo in the CTS VSport.

I drove this car for 10 days, and is wonderful. I averaged over 24 mpg for my 1600 miles.

It will be interesting how the 3.0 will be. GM stopped using the 3.0 in all the vehicles and switched to the 3.6.

I'm not sure I'm following you. The turbo's are mounted just like the Eco Boost or are you talking about reverse coolant flow?

I did notice it has a water to air intercooler which I like better than an air to air intercooler.

I thought - from looking at picture on my phone...that it flowed intake and exhaust like a 6.7L Ford. Intakes are outboard. Might be wrong though ๐Ÿ™‚

Got it... I'm pretty sure with the twin turbo's mounted on the outside that this engine has conventional flow.

VWAG/Audi beat everyone to the "Ecoboost" setup. GM beat Ford as I owned a SIDI equipped Saturn Sky Redline in 2007. However, Ford had the best marketing to call it the "Ecoboost" and beat everybody to the bank.

I think the Cadillac 4-6-8 engine came out more than several years ago. More like about 3 decades or so ago.
def: 'Several' is a word that shows size or number when you canโ€™t be specific or when you want to summarize." :W

Seams that Cadillac's idea 30 years ago has now been adopted with good success since the technology has improved to support such a idea.

x2

When I heard about the 'new' ecoboost it sounded exactly like the same as the 4-6-8 was. I drove one and it did have its troubles searching where it needed to be.

so yup, I think it's off the same drawing board and no extra money invested just like you said with new tech it is improved so it would work.
Plus the fact why not drag it back out? It will be 'new' to the current generation. :W
