Can this weight be right?!?!

So I loaded up some old junk and took a ride to the town dump yesterday. You pay by the ton so they weigh you going in and coming out.

What they are showing as tare is just me and 1/2 tank of diesel....is the truck in my signature truck really that heavy?

Well went to get some sand in DD 2004 Ram CTD 3500 DRW, I was surprised as it scaled about 7,800ish, on a GVWR of 12,300# about 4,500# payload no sticker in 2004.

By comparison, when I took our F150 thru the dump last week, with three adults, full tank of gas and my generator in the bed of the truck, we were at 6000#.

Wouldn't have guessed that a one-ton would be that much heavier than a half-ton, but a mostly aluminum body Ford gasser should weigh less than a mostly steel body Dodge diesel.
  • 2019 Grand Design 29TBS (had a Winnebago and 3x Jayco owner)
  • 2016 F-150 3.5L MaxTow (had Ram 2500 CTD, Dodge Durango)
  • 130W solar and 2005 Honda EU2000i twins that just won't quit

I can’t say that True Mass is less or more effective than CytoGainer or N-Large because my weight gains were about exactly the same. My clean bulking goal is 1lb increase in bodyweight per week and I hit that with all 3 weight gainers. So I’d have to say effectiveness is equal ***Link Removed***

My 88 ext cab 4x with a BB was 5800 lbs. 96 CC 6.5td was 6600 lbs. 05 CC dually with dmax was 7300 lbs. 81 an 2000 reg cab base models under 5000 es....yes recent trucks no matter the brand are heavier than past year's.
This is both good and bad honestly.
I pay fees based on gross here in WaSt. Tare is needed, as that is what is used to determine min gross wieght you must buy. Ie tare times 1.5 to next highest ton. Using dually 05 as an example, 7300 x 1.5 = 10,950 or 12,000 minimum tag to purchase. Manufacture have is 11400. I was licensed and legal to 14000.
My reg cabs are/were licensed at 8000. NOT legal to 8600 door tag.

Oops, missed that post, as stated before if used for selling product it needs to be accurate. Scales now work with load cells,
It is amazing how accurate they can be.

Maybe the factory base weight for a 3500 SRW, reg cab, long bed, Tradesman, 5.7 or 6.7 Hemi.

What is the sticker Payload on your truck? Subtract that from your GVWR and it should be what the truck weighed as it left the factory with a 150# driver and full fuel.

I'd say it is. Our '03 F250 PSD, 4x4, sb, cc 50 gallon Transferflow tank came in at 8500. Then our '15 F350 PSD (same everything else as the '03) was 8700. Finally weighed the '17 few weeks ago after owning it for 2.5 years and it comes in at 9100.
