Extended Warranty or Not

Dealer talked me into a 5 year extended warranty for about $2500 on our new TT. It says I can cancel within 45 days for a full refund. That's the route I want to go because I'm very handy.

I would to know if an extended warranty really did pay off for anyone. I would think for most it did not.

Get your refund! It is just money in their pockets. There are so many exclusions IMO they are a waste of money. When we bought our new rig I was dead set against it, but my husband wanted peace of mind. No repair yet has been covered, including a refrigerator installed incorrectly and a leaky shower. The trouble with the frig is they won't acknowledge the problem in installation, same as shower. First time out the pantry shelves with sliders flew open, contents flew out, smashed the pantry door, guess what....not their problem. They put the door back together (at $110 an hour!) and replaced the hardware which we had to replace to function properly. I feel we were suckered into that warranty.

Forest River used to offer an extra year full warranty for I think $100. dealers would never tell you this because they wanted to sell you the more expensive one. Call Forest River and ask (not the dealer!).

I wouldn't bother with an extended warranty on a trailer. $2500 covers a lot of repairs, cancel it.

If you read the service contract backwards, it will tell you
"there is a lot of wiggle room in order NOT to pay you but thank you for your donation".

If you felt this way, then why on earth did you buy it ?
Now you have get back into it to try to cancel. Hopefully they won't tell you there is a 20% re-stocking fee . :B

I purchased one through Good Sams for our new 5th wheel we bought 3 years ago. I've had 2 prior issues that were denied that I thought should have been covered. Both were minor so I paid the bill and went on. I just had a MAJOR issue that I thought for sure would be covered. They sent an adjuster out and 3 days later I learned once again they were denying the claim. I have asked for a written denial because this one sounds wrong to me. If you buy it, just know they spend as much time and money attempting to deny claims as they do paying them!

Read your policy. Check the exclusions, there are probably a lot of things that are not covered.
And, let us know how you make out with canceling the policy.

Get your money back and self insure. Not too many repairs on a tt will set you back half of that money. Also, you can get a warranty for less than half of what you paid. When we purchased our first FW we purchased an extended warranty, started off around $2700 and paid less the $1500, I did smarten up and got a refund after six months. These are huge profits items for dealers.

To me an extended warranty is about the person not the product. 😉

My brother just bought a new car and paid additionally for a full 7 year extended warranty. Not a chance I'd ever do that BUT he's a do nothing guy when it comes to cars - he knows how to drive one, put gas in it, and does get the oil changed when needed but other than that he doesn't want to know about how anything works and has zero interest in fixing anything himself. For a person like him an extended warranty probably makes sense but for those who have even a modicum of interest and willingness to deal with "issues" themselves an extended warranty IMO is a total waste of $$$$.

So what it comes down is - which type of person are you? :@

Most new trailers/5th wheels come with a full 1 yr. warranty from the mfg. I figured that if I didn't have any major serious repairs within that yr. I didn't see the value of paying $2500 for the extended warranty. There are too many loop holes, exceptions, conditions that have to been met for the Extended warranty to pay off.

Nope . I would not and never have and I have bought a lot of RVs, P/Ups, you name it in my nearly 80 years. It would have never payed off for me even for washing m , dryers etc

It pays off if the RV you bought has a lot of problems with it... Or maybe one major one? Who knows? How good is your Crystal Ball?

But, who wants to have a POS RV so they get value out of the extended warranty?

Now, if it gives you peace of mind having it and you never have to use it, than great.. That's really the only reason you should really pay for an extended warranty IMO...

If all you want is to have more claims on your POS RV that ends up costing more than what you paid for the warranty than great...

Put the money in a savings account for future repairs. The 2500 you pay dealer gets probably half as pure profit.
