F150 goodbye, hello F250

Just traded my 07 F150 for a 2016 F250 crew cab with a 6.2L gas. My first 3/4 ton PU. Haven't towed with it yet, but the F250 feels like a lot more truck to me.

12,500 lb tow
3200 lb payload

F150 was a good truck for sure, but always felt a little light when towing our 27' bunkhouse at 6800 lbs.

Towing report coming in near future !

Does that 6.7 figure also include an additional cooling system, heavier drive train and an exhaust system the size on a cruise missile?

Both weight's are the dry engine weights only and exclude accessories and exhaust system.

Correct, moving from the 6.2 to the 6.7 costs about 800-900 off the payload. Most of that is the lump of CGI, but as was said, Radiators, Inter-coolers, Exhaust, Heavier Transmission (6R140 vs 6R100) make up part of it as well.

I looked at several other brand trucks and the Ford Diesel trucks too and I could not find a payload over 3K like the 250 gasser. The 250 was well over a 1000 pounds better in payload than anything else I looked at.

The diesel engine weighs about 800 lbs more than a gas engine. 3/4 ton trucks are arbitrarily limited to 10,000 lbs to stay in that 2B class. A gas 3/4 ton truck with 10,000 lbs gvwr will ALWAYS have more payload than a heavier diesel. Its simple math.

If you want diesel and more payload, get a 1 ton. Essentially the same truck with no arbitrary GVWR.

So a 6.2 only weighs 300#?? Cummins the heaviest of the diesels only weighs 1,100#.

Going from a 1/2 ton to a 3/4 ton is so much less driver fatigue while towing.

Congrats on the new ride. We moved up from a 2007 Silverado 1500, 4.6L, 2WD pulling a 4,500 pound trailer to a 2012 F-250 regular cab, 6.2L, 3.73, 4,000 lbs payload pulling an 8,800 pound trailer. Pulls the trailer with easy but is a rougher ride due to the stiffer suspension.

Sometimes still with an arbitrary GVWR, just a higher one. 😉

You're going to like everything except the gas mileage. I know, I have one.

I think you'll really see the difference when towing. The F250 should handle your camper with ease.
