Fifty percent more payload in a F-150

I picked up 2017 F-150 Supercab with the 5.0 Liter engine last month. No tow package, no suspension upgrades. 2,312 pounds of Payload on the yellow sticker which is fifty percent more than most of the other F-150's on the lot which averaged about 1,650 pounds. They must automatically beef up the suspension for the V-8, and I am glad that they did. Too many half tons run out of payload with 800 pounds of people and gear and 900 pound tongue load. I won't. All that for a little over $30k. I know that there are models with even more payload, but they charge more for them.

That truck should serve you well. The 5.0 is a great engine.

By comparison, my 2014, last year of the steel body, which has the HD package, and Max Tow package is:

GVWR = 8200
Front GAWR = 4050
Rear GAWR = 4800
CCC = 2286
GCWR = 17100
Wheel Base = 163"
XLT Supercab, 4x4, w/ 3.5L Ecoboost

Out of curiosity, what is the GVWR and the rear2axle rating? I'm assuming you have the 6.5' bed? Is it an XL or XLT?

GVWR 6900
Front GAWR 3225
Rear GAWR 3800
Payload 2312

I am not saying that I purchased a Supertruck, but a Supercab. My only real point is that without opening the doors, I almost paid the same money for the same truck with a Eco 2.7 and 700 pounds less payload. Neither truck had any optional suspension or towing upgrades. Buyer beware. I do not mind giving up five percent fuel mileage for the difference.

Methinks you are missing something. Have a good one Tom. Hope your weekend gets better. Maybe try relaxing in a hammock to get that blood pressure down.

I was clearly trying to defuse the nonsense posts that people were posting AGAINST you, therefore I was on your side. You are so pent up with rage about this for some reason that you are attacking one of the few people who actually understood the reason for your post and supported your post and was attempting to inject a little humor at the weight police who piped in.

For whatever reason, you chose to come at me, someone who was on your side. Take a deep breath and relax dude...

it's not just him Tom, I had the same impression. It's like you are taking each response as a personal attack. Maybe forums aren't for you.

That is about as lame as your diesel joke. Comedy or criticism may not be your strong suit. Let it go. It was not funny in the first place and reminding people will not make it any funnier. I was simply relating some facts about late model Ford pickups and you jump on board with a disjointed and disconnected comedy routine. LoL. Nobody likes a good joke more than I do. But I recognize a good one when I hear it.

Do you have any better underwear jokes? Not my favorite subject, but I may be missing something.

What if anything does that add to the mix? Sorry, I thought it was somebody trying to be silly. There was not a single F-150 diesel on the lot.

Give it a year. Lion is coming to a Ford dealer near you.

Based on Ford's spec sheet your empty rear axle curb weight is likely around 2000 lbs. That really only gives you about 1800 lbs to play with in terms of cargo and hitch weight before you max out your RAWR. And likely more importantly your tire ratings, because most half tons come equipped pretty lightly in that regard.
The thing that you are missing is that some of the load is carried on the front axle. Nobody ever claimed that I, or anyone else, could hang 2,312 pounds off the rear bumper. Some of every pound in the cab is carried by the front axle, for example. 1,800 pounds in the bed is more than I will ever need with this pickup. That is why I like the payload rating.
Good point. That's why a WD hitch is so critical on a 1/2 ton. With some larger bumper pull TT's, gotta get some of that payload (pin weight) transferred to the front axle to stay under the rear axle rating . . . while also staying under the overall payload rating.

BTW, is your truck 2wd or 4wd? 1/2-ton 2wd trucks typically have 250-300 lbs. more payload than a 4wd (if both trucks are otherwise optioned the same).

It was meant to be a joke. Obviously you are wound up WAY too tight to appreciate humor. I apologize for trying to bring some levity to a thread that had gotten quite off track...

Actually, Ford did not take full advantage of the increased payloads in their tow ratings. Even though this unit has a 2,300 pound payload rating, the tow rating is only 5,000 pounds since it has no towing options. That is being more honest, in my opinion.

So the question is, do all V8's have the higher GVWR or could you have found a similar EB with the same chassis specs? I have not researched this. Is this the only one you saw like this? Maybe special order that was not picked up.

The answer to your question is "Yes". For whatever reason, a F-150 with no suspension upgrades and the V-8 has a considerably higher GVWR than the Eco 2.7 with no suspension upgrades. Suspension upgrades are available for both but the difference is maintained. This was never intended to be a V-8 versus V-6 argument, just a report of the greatly increased Payload numbers on recent F-150's. All F-150's.

A GVWR of 6,900 pounds is more than 25 pounds greater than one of 6300 pounds, unless my calculator is way off.

That is your answer. Higher GVWR on that vehicle not due to any weight differences. So the question is, do all V8's have the higher GVWR or could you have found a similar EB with the same chassis specs? I have not researched this. Is this the only one you saw like this? Maybe special order that was not picked up.

Well it sounds like you got a good truck that fits your needs, and that is the ticket! I may have missed it but u get a 4x4 or a locker in the rear? You will like that 5.0, coworker is trying to purchase one. He's selling his 6.4 diesel ford and looking at similar to what you have. Keep us in the loop on you towing mpgs and overall performance.
