Ford F250 6.2 Liter gas any good?

I am looking into purchasing a new Ford F250 with the 6.2 liter gas engine and 373 gears. Does anyone have any experience with this motor? It has only been around 4 years. I currently tow a 6000 lbs TT with a 2006 F150 5.4 liter, does the job on level roads but struggles against the wind or up hills.

Mine tows our fiver without problem & more than enough power. Recently came back from a 12,500 km tour across the U.S from Ontario via Arizona , California up to Washington State into B.C & returned via Idaho , Colorado, Kansas ,Missouri + more ( yeah I know I missed listing a few states) and back up to Ontario. All in just under 3 weeks Absolutely flawless and no hills that I couldn't take at the speed limit unless I was being blocked by Semi's. Only thing done was change the oil. I was very impressed with the engine braking on the downslopes I hardly had to use the brakes on truck or rig at all in fact it slowed it down so much that sometimes I had to goose it going down!

FWIW...today I pulled a 26 ft deck over gooseneck with a 80s model Massey Ferguson 135 I believe, and a 6ft mower on the tractor. Put her in tow haul and locked out 6th gear and the truck rolled with it like a boss! Easily could maintain 55-60 on the highway with very little effort at all. I'm a very honest person and will readily admit that a diesel 6.7 would have probably never even knew this load was behind it. But for a gas truck I'm incredibly impressed! This truck honestly pulls better than my 05 with the 6.0. As I've said before, I'm sure the transmission is the big difference between the two. But, for anyone interested, the 6.2 is a awesome gas engine with a ton of power!

My dad and myself use to tow with V10's I had a 4:30 gear and he had a 3:73 and I towed a much heavier RV than his and would get better MPG than he did. Go with a 4:30 and the 6.2

While I don't own the truck in question, I would add that I have a friend that does. I looked at one prior my GMC purchase. I have heard good things from him on his truck. His is a 4 door, 2 wheel drive with all the tow goodies. Anyway pulls a larger camper then the one you have mentioned and has no problems. So my thought is that if u find the right one then go for it. I loved the cooper color that I saw and it was a 350 SRW.
A truck, a camper, a few toys, but most importantly a wonderful family.

I have a 2013 F250 6.2L gas. I currently tow a Rockwood 8313SS about 8800 lbs.

It tows great and at speeds of about 65 towing I am getting around 9.5 mpg.

Driving around town non towing I am getting on average of 14.5 mpg.

Not had any problems with it, while towing it handles the hills very well. I locked it out of 6 speed when towing cause it seemed to jump back and forth a little to much for my comfort zone.

With a 6spd tranny there is not any good reasons to go with a 4.30 axle, especially if it's a 4X4. If you could not get going on a steep hill with a 12K trailer (only time a 4.30 would be slightly better), put it in 4L until you are on flatter ground. Your son has a very special truck if he's getting that kind of mileage! My 6.2 could only break 12mpg empty commuting during the summer. A 30' airstream would have put it deep into single digits just by hooking it to the hitch!

I have a 2012 crew 4x4 with the 6.2 and 3.73's and also pull a 5er in the 10k range. The truck with the 6.2 and the super smooth 6 speed tranny handle it extremely well! I would recommend it all day. My only complaint is the rear springs are weak and the truck basically had zero rake from the factory ( 1/4 in front to back ). I'm talking weak to the point that it takes very little tongue/pin weight to set it down badly! Also, the factory shocks were complete and utter JUNK!!!
I installed new Bilsteins and a long add a leaf from General Spring in Kansas City MO and WOW what a difference. It now handle's the 5ers pin weight effortlessly, and sits nice and level while doing it.

I went from a Chevy HD with 6.0. Big difference with the six spd trans. At 60 in 5th the engine is at 2000 rpm. There are lots of folks that complain about the trans shifting often. Welcome to modern technology. They are designed to keep you at a constant speed while shifting back and forth. My HD sounded like it was gonna blow when it down shifted because the RPM increase so much more.

2012 with same numbers towing 8500 lbs. no problems on grades and averaging 9mpg. Love the truck!

I have the Ram equal in the 6.4 Hemi with the 3.73 gears. My TT is 8500# loaded and it's a GREAT setup. I had a 5.4 years ago and it was a total dog compared to these modern engines. You're in for a nice treat with upgrade for sure.

I was on the fence between the Ford and Ram but went with the Ram due to the cylinder deactivation and finding slightly better mpg reports from owners on various message boards. I love my Ram but am sure I would also be loving the Ford as well. The modern trucks these days are outstanding.

I had one for almost two years. It towed our current 7500 lb TT great. Reason I traded in for the diesel is because we plan on buying a fifth wheel and traveling cross country when we retire. But for the trailer you have I think you would be very happy. Not just with the engine, but the overall truck is solid, fairly quiet, and comfortable. Rarely have I seen negative reiews, except from those who try to tow too much, or expect good mileage. Mine had the 3:73s and I got 13.5 average, 16 HWY empty, and 8-10 towing.

In the two tests I've read, there wasn't much performance difference between the 3.73 and 4.30. In fact, the 3.73 truck was faster in a few tests.
