It's a FORD presser, NO WAY are they going to lose any of the test runs...it's just common sense.....if they failed at anything while taping, they just substituted something else in until they passed a particular test....they're not going to produce this video and fail ..It's THEIR commercial....but I also believe Ram and GM would do the same thing, so it's a wash.

One needs a non-bias trial/test if that's what they think one needs to prove which truck is best...heck, with the HP & TQ Ford is putting out, one would think they're 3500 would EASILY beat the Chevy and Ram...blow them off the road so to speak, kick dust in their grille...Should be a "no contest"...Ford winning in every facet with their new HP and TQ specs...BUT, I'll stick with my medium duty 6 banger and my medium duty tranny.....I know for fact what it'll do and that's all that matters...IF I EVER left Ram, I'd go back to a Chevy D/A combo, (can't help it, still in my blood, just more diluted with Ram blood now:)).

Completely agree! Even the part about Chevy! Although my Chevy was a 6.2 with TH400 trans!

I guess you really see the difference in torque

It was a relatively light load at 12000 pounds and the ram was sort of winded keeping 60mph

I need to buy a truck, I wish the ram had more HP or the Ford had a better interior

What are you planning to tow?

This is my real world personal experience.

2011 RAM 3500 Dually 350/800 3:42 gears. Combined weigh of 28K+.

I pull every Pass border to border along I-5 at 55 or more. Many are 6%.

So I can guarantee you the newer RAM with more HP/TQ and a lower gear ratio will do much better especially with a measly 12K RV behind it!

I just watched the video again.

Not surprised at the results.

Horsepower is king on long hill climbs.

The Chevy and Ram were only 5 seconds apart. That is what you would expect with two engines that close in horsepower. Depends on which had the transmission gearing that allowed the engine to run at max horsepower for this hill. Select a different hill and things may be different.

Ford chose this hill for a reason but with 40 more horsepower they should have won easily.

The thing I noticed on the Ram there was engine rpm changes as if the torque converter was not locked. This will allow the engine to get into the max horsepower range.

They did not give the rpm's of any except the Chevy which was 2700 rpm. Below its max horsepower.

The Ram sounded like it was in the 3000+ rpm area but can not be sure. But it was definitely changing RPM at constant speed thus torque converter was probably not locked as with the Chevy.

The Ram was by far the noisiest of the three.

It looks like the dry weight on the yellow sticker says 9875lbs. Also, to me it looked like the Montana is taller then the other two.

Rich is correct. I went back and watched the first minute and a half carefully, and if you do, what you will see in less than two minutes is that there are actually two different trucks from each manufacturer, A TOTAL OF NO LESS THAN 6 DIFFERENT TRUCKS, as follows:

Ford: 1 red truck, & 1 blue truck
Chevy: 1 black truck, and 1 red truck
Ram: 1 silver truck and 1 black truck

So what's up with that? These guys are playing some kind of shell game.

Look closely!! That 12,057# is the GVWR for that 5er! I Can't find a spec on a Crusader for 12,057# closest is the 330MKS at 12,157 and a 10,127# dry weight.
On the Montana the lightest is the 3100RL with a dry weight of 11,705#, it is also 5" taller than the Crusader. So it is interesting that the Ford is faster.

I am thinking something is strange with this test, as my 2001 5.9 Cummins can pull a 6% to 7% grade at 60 mph pulling 11,000# with less than 300 hp. That is at 19,500# GCVW.

If anything the GM and Ram had an advantage, but it all seems a bit off.

GM gave up on the HP/torque race, most likely because of the light duty Allison 1000.

I agree to eliminate any variables the trailers should be exactly the same in which the aerodynamics attribute would be the same. Having said that the guy at the beginning of the video states each truck will be pulling 12k lbs and IMO the two trailers behind the Chevy and the Dodge look to have a more aerodynamic front end but I could be wrong.

Until extensive tests arr done no one knows if a front caps that appears different is more aero!

Many variables, including tires and inflation, and actual weight of the trailers not the GVWR on the placard. The Crusaders might have had 30 or 40 central Amercian children heading North in each! Chris

I'll take the Ford truck with the Ram engine (cummins) and the GM tranny (allison).

The medium duty Aisin tranny now offered in the regular 3500 SRW and3500 DRW trucks is as good, in my opinion, as the Allison...I owned three Chevy D/A trucks and the medium duty Aisin transmission coupled to the medium duty Cummins engine is also a very good "dynamic duo":)

The Allison that is offered in the HD GM twins is a "neutered" version of what comes behind the Cummins or other engines in a Medium duty application.

This is per the West Coast Chrysler Warranty rep Stan Gozzi "they don't break" referring to the Aision trans in the RAM's.

You mean where they showed the weight tag of the Chevy and Dodge trailer but not the weight tag of the trailer the Ford was towing?

You mean the guy that kept on calling the Cummins a Cummings?

Now I'm very happy that Ford finally can pull off a win. It's been a long 4 years for Ford with them loosing every towing race that I can think of. Oh, they did win several going down hill I guess. :B

Then there was the valve problems, then the turbo problems and then the.............shall I mention it????................the CP4 warrantee problems. :E

But 440 HP should do it. But then again I thought 400 was going to do it. :B

BTW why does the grill keep changing on the Ford? :h
