From Tundra 5.7 to what 3/4 ton gas truck?

My 5.7 Tundra has no problem pulling my ~7600lb trailer up just about an grade (4.30 gears), but because I am over my payload limits by at least 500lbs, and nothing else I'm thinking about dumpuing my 2010 5.7 Tundra and going to a 3/4 ton from one of the big 3, I have no brand loyalty and I've had them all in the past and have had good luck with them.

I've been looking hard at the new Ram because of the new 6.4 hemi and rear coil springs, looks like I would be looking at around $40k by the time I'm done with taxes and fee's on a new Ram.

So I have also been looking for used with low miles and of course the 2014's with 6.4 are hard to find used.

has anyone towed with the 5.7 Hemi (2010-2012 Rams) that can comment on the power when towing and mpg's?

looks like used Rams are everywhere with the 5.7 for around $27k, but most seem to have 3.73 gears...although with used trucks it's hard to tell since you don't have the window sticker to go off of...I don't know how accurate the online VIN checker is either...

any input on the Ram or GM gasser's is appreciated. I haven't counted out the ford, but I'm not sure about power with the 6.2?

I'm not really looking for a diesel, but I do see some 2011-2012's around for ~35k

The experience with what the OP is towing with a 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton is night and day. The power with the Tundra is great and may not even be that much more with the 3/4. The benefit is the brakes, suspension, etc, etc.

Shop around and just buy the one you like the best.

I love my 6.4 Hemi but you really can't go wrong with any of the new/newer vehicles. There have been a lot of advancements in the last few years.

Went shopping around today to kill some time. Found 2 Ram crew short boxes with the Cummins, optioned up a bit but not Laramies. $80K and $83k!!! The diesel is usually around $8k more than a gasser. I have yet to see a 6.4l price but I guarantee it's over $70k.

A pair of 6.0 Chevy crews with Z71 packages were $61k+. I can only dream of finding a new 3/4t for under $40k. Most 2012s are going for well over that used. Heck, even the new 1/2 tons are mid fifty and up. We're getting raped up here. So much for free trade.

Hanna Ford in Collingwood ON has a bunch of 2015 6.2L SCrew F250s for Can$45K.

And a RegCab F350 with Plowprep for Can$40K. Also a stripped RegCab diesel for Can$46K. Think they must be one of the highest volume dealers in Ontario and their prices reflect it.

For Ram's I've seen good prices on the Web from Caledon Chrysler, but they mostly stock luxury trucks. Haven't found any place with online competitive prices for GM in Ontario.

It's odd. When you go to some dealers websites and look at the 6.4 trucks in inventory, under "Fuel Type" they show premium unleaded.

I must have been lucky because I got my used 2013 f250 for 34900.
now it's not a top of the line larit but it is a nice xlt.but it has everything I could want. And it only had 13000 miles on it.

The 5.7L Hemi recommends using 89 (mid grade), the 6.4L TRUCK Hemi only needs 87. Maybe you're confusing it with the SRT 6.4L?

My 6.4 (loaded) was $71k cdn msrp. I got invoice pricing and paid $58k.

Call these guys. I bet they can get you something in your price range new. Worth a one-way plane ticket and drive back even. 2015s are hitting lots; 2014s on the cheap. Plus they can get nearly anyone family or friends discounts.
