Insurance coverage

Since we got a new camper I called our insurance company (Liberty Mutual) to add the new camper to our auto policy. They said they can't insure it since they'll only insure up to $24,999. When I informed them that they had no problem insuring our old camper up to $37,500 they looked back at the policy and said it was only insured to $7,500. The call dropped right after that. I call back and speak to someone else who informs me my camper is only covered to $4,500. I asked where the discrepancies were coming in but they couldn't answer.

Anywho....long story short I'm looking for a new insurance company. Who do you guys use? Are you sure you're covered for what it's worth? Bonus points if anyone has had to file a claim on their camper and succeeded. Thanks

ETA: does anyone have their combo insured as an RV? We don't use the truck as a daily driver and rarely even take the camper off. I'm checking with Liberty to see if this is an option.

2x on State Farm Insurance. My last camper had an electrical fire and shorted out all the wiring. They totaled it and paid off over $30k. Had no problems and no complaints!

I did not see this philosophy expanded on inthis topic conversation... I have heard similar to what the above captions states, but IIRC there is a lapse in coverage if one were to remove the TC out in the woods or in a campground and something were to happen because it is neither "at home" nor "on the truck" if one were to use this home/ truck coverage and not a specific TC policy

Aslo- one conversation I had with an insurance company wanted to in sure my TC as a general camper coverage policy. When I pressed them further, they stated it was for a towed camper. I pressed them to make sure that it included truck camper coverage. When they would not specify this specific type of RV- I walked away.

Make sure that the insurance folks with whom you are talking WILL write the coverage for a truck camper type RV.
Sold the TC, previous owner of 2 NorthStar pop-ups & 2 Northstar Arrows...still have the truck:

No extra cost on either home or truck.

my State farm agent said if it has a title it has to have a rider on my truck policy. It wasn't much

After reading the responses to this thread,I decided to have a sit down with my State Farm agent and go over my home owners and truck policy. The way stated is the way it is insured and I was concerned at what value it was insured.Turns out it is listed at the original price. She let me know if it is total it will be replaced, period.

Wawanesa insurance.

Pay about $10 a month

Paid 12k for a 2012 wolf creek

Wolf creek was deemed a total loss

Recieved check for blue book value of $22k, went and bought another wolf creek

Probably the best ins. Company out there. (If they are in your area)

A couple more comments.

Your insurance policy is not lengthy, and is easy to understand. I would recommend reading through it so you know what the coverage is.

2nd point, if you haven't recently shopped your coverage around, I would do so. I had State Farm for around the first 10 years of adulthood. I became friends with an Independent Insurance Agent, and had him quote my policies. I ended up saving about $2000/ year with better coverage when I switched all my policies.

I checked him against a couple of captive agents last year (State Farm, Farmers, Allstate), and he was still $1000 cheaper per year.

It pays to shop.

Please be sure that you have a stated value policy. I have Auto Owners Insurance and when I purchased my camper they asked the amount I wanted to insure it for....that leaves no room for misinterpretation.
In my case $20,000 stated value and $120 per year.

State Farm 'rider' policy covers the camper while it's on the truck AND when it's in storage, unloaded...etc. I confirmed this before I purchased my policy last year.

Same, coverage is through Progressive.

I have mine with Progressive. full coverage. its about 1/2 of what Allstate offered me (and all my cars/trucks/home is with Allstate). my Motorcycles have also been with progressive for 25 years.

Progressive even has an "agreed upon value" insurance. After my Dad passed I was going over all Mom's bills and discovered he was carrying $100,000 insurance on a motor home with a value of $30.000 retail.

This is exactly the same as me. However, from what other people are saying I am now unclear if this only covers the camper when it is on the truck. Did you ever inquire about that?

Mine too, Mass and Florida always has been ... We only had to show the Cert/Origin because TC is not titled in either state.

State Farm rocks. I added TC to my trucks policy for $100 bucks a year, new Arctic Fox insured for full retail. Zero problems in 25 years. The covered my 2.5 ton army truck with zero issues as well.

Haven't made a claim but just insured my new Eagle Cap with Geico. They knew what a TC was, took my S/N and issued a new policy on the TC for full value ($40K).
