Low Forum Activity?

I'm noticing since coming back to the forum recently that overall activity level on all of RV.net is very low. Even on Tow Vehicles, Around The Campfire and Fifth Wheels, all that used to be very busy forums, are now practically dead.

Use to be, a post could be made one day, and by the next day, if nobody replied to it, it would be buried 4 or 5 pages back on a busy forum like Tow Vehicles and Around the Campfire. Even Truck Campers it would be back on page 2 or 3 by the next day.

Have alot of folks left the forum in the past year or two? I still see alot of the same regulars I used to see, but notice some are also missing so far and I dont see a lot of newby posts as I used to see.

My friends think that I am a nitwit for spending all my time traveling around the country in a camper and participating in online forums like this. Color me "Nitwit".

I'd add there are a lot TC (among other groups) groups on facebook and that is where I am spending most of my limited ''free internet/social'' time. Checking in on friends and people that I have meet personally.

I'll check in on the forums but know I am commenting less then I use too.

Also all the internet/texting messaging I set aside in a heart beat for one on one time with family and friends.

I have no idea what you are writing about...

I think most of us are talking about years of experience on the TC forum

I can write: I have owned computers since 1987... had the first 10 mb hard drive in town in my zeneth 286

.... but what would that have to do with my 10+ years on this forum?

We have had some wonderful members here.. and have sadly lost some.

We have had a few obnoxious members ... sadly, we haven't lost enough.

Just say'n!

Don't confuse how long someone has been doing something or how much they are paid at doing it as any measure of proficiency. There are plenty of people doing the same thing over and over again the same way yet expecting different results than the last time...

BTW: I was writing 8080 machine code and soldering my own machines and cables together long before IBM decided to step in and introduce inferior machines that took years to rebound.

Speaking of Nitwits :

I did a search ( which I always do before starting a new thread), (or responding to a post ), and found the following info, the results of which were apparently not generally released to the RV Net membership, but I did find in by doing a Search , which if others had done, it might have eliminated the need for this topic being posted in the first place , but it's ok that it was because we were getting low on posts anyway.

It refers to a comprehensive survey done at this time last year regarding the same topic being discussed in this post : The perceived lower volume of posts on the RV Net forums at this time each year. The survey was sent out to over 4000 forum members and the results shown below were compiled from the answers received from all 6 members who responded. I hope that this will clear up the mystery once and for all, and eliminate the continued discussion of this topic each fall. The responses are from actual members who wish to remain anonymous.

Why are there fewer posts in the fall/ winter than in the summer

1. Most of the posts aren't visible in the winter because the snow is too deep on the fences

2 Old People don't trust young people and young people don't trust old people , middle age people are neutral on the whole subject

3. Most members post several new topics each day, but there is some kind of conspiracy going on , the moderators are deleting 99% of the posts before anyone can read them.

4 The spell check feature doesn't work , so if a word is misspellled, the entire post is vaporized by the system.

5. The proliferation of surveys like this one are causing members minds to vaporize.

6. TC'ers who have smaller rigs and limited space use smaller computers and see fewer posts visible on the screen.

7. Tc'ers who have larger rigs and more space use a larger font size on the screen , filling up the screen faster and allowing fewer posts to be seen.

8. If all the forum members were busy working on writing a post at the same time, nobody would be available to read them. Most members are being polite and waiting.

9. Post counts are down 432% due to the disappearance of Slack R Crusty

10. Members have more eyesight problems, making it painful for them to sit at a computer typing a post, it is believed to be caused by increased smoke pollution from campfires.

Hope this helps, Joe

Couldn't agree with you more if I tried.

sent too soon.. I was replying to the part of this thread that may or may not be implying that how long you're on this forum means you are supposedly less, or more of a nitwit.

And saying... that I don't think it does.

Mostly just posting to increase reply count to this thread-see if we can surpass last years thread page number on this topic (which if had been searched for, might have precluded adding another thread and hence decreased forum activity).

I'm still digesting most of this thread so far. 'Been a couple of colorful 'categories' describing types of folks that might cause other to grow weary of posting. Must fall into at least one (hopefully not more) of them. However I'm unsure, possibly because I'm in one of them that I cant seem to glean what is actually being described.
I got STFU -rest went over my head.

Oh SuperDutyFiver, more info than how many folks have opened a thread verses actual replies as shown on Topics listing pages?

Ive noted what seemed less activity- but last 2 years. I also attribute partly to the absorption into some of the mega threads as far as new topics and the replies to them. Most that add to those threads-thats where it ends. Unfortunate as many merit their own thread. I think it was better said earlier but I don't believe posting a comment in the "whad'ya do" should mean you cant also start a new thread on subject, nor was that its intent. Its not like were wasting bandwidth..

Myself-I check in daily, haven't been out for a while. I discovered if I don't use camper I don't work on it? However as much as Ive gleaned from this forum-still enjoy the opportunity to return that whether to a newbie asking the same question a bazillionth time or didn't search 1st. Haven't tired of it yet. Sometimes even if you don't have needed info to supply-just continuing the discussion eventually may lead to it. Wandering...

Um, hi, nitwit #46274 here...

So on one of our January trips as visiting aliens to SoCal we were moving camp inland from the coast.

We were stopped at a mall along #78 mid Sunday morning with our old TC and our no longer relevant 2006 (paid for) #3 selling Dodge when a nice nearly-new GMC Californy truck (they don't have mudflaps) with a great looking Lance TC rolls by and gives us a great big HONK HONK and she waves out the window. We wave and I says to the missus "those right there are truck camper people."

Did I post this in the wrong thread?

Well I'm sure that the length of time being around has absolutely no bearing on whether you're a nitwit or not... Neither does post count, actually IMNSHO, combined with the fact I've been on the "internet" since before it was called the "internet", I think the higher the post count the more likely you are a nit wit.

To be clear though, I'm not calling anyone a nitwit.
