My turn for Delamination

My 2010 Jayco is delaminating in two places and of course both are my fault. One is near the back on the street side and is about 2 feet long. The other is on the bunk slide on the side of it, (not the exterior wall). It is right in the middle so I can't imagine that water just magically appeared there. DW is heartbroken and the estimate was over 70 hours of labor. No way we are pouring that kind on money on a 5 year old camper.
I thought Jayco would have stepped up but I guess not.
This camper was built over Labor Day (in 2009) and has had several problems that our dealer couldn't fix. Even simple ones like leaking under/around the glass shower doors. I let them try that repair 3 times before I just removed them.
The other problem was the black tank had the hole drilled too big. They messed with 4 times and I finally got smart and took it to another dealer that saw the problem right away and ordered a new tank.
It's just sad...

Let's suppose for a second that he did use your language instead of his. How does financing or not financing change anything? Whether you finance or not doesn't change the risk of whether you get delamination or not. And whether or not you finance doesn't change the decrease in value to your camper after you get delam. So financing has no bearing on the issue at hand; so why make the comment?

FWIW, even though I don't agree with Oasisbob's last sentence, I too did not see it as being a sarcastic attack on the OP or even anyone else here.

Back to the issue - I still would like the OP to describe the delamination instead of just saying 'my trailer delaminated and Jayco won't pay for it out of warranty' - because up until now that is all that was said.

I agree. His/her comments did wonders on helping the OP with their problem. Wow

I took his comment as a shot to the manufacturers, sort of sarcastic, not at the OP. Also I thought he meant that it's a sad that some people finance these and have issues like this, by his "to think some folks finance this stuff. How very sad." comment.

He even said he was "sorry, really sorry." So Idk why you guys are assuming he meant it all negatively at the OP? I don't consider myself a glass half full kind of guy either, but that's how I took it. What did I miss? Sincerely, not being sarcastic.

Hell I'm even one of those guys that financed mine, I'm hoping I don't have serious issues like this, not sure it is more hope than I'd have it I had paid cash for it...

There are plenty of articles on how to fix delamination. Likely culprits are windows and the roof penetrations. Eternabond tape and Dicor caulk will do wonders, also get a cover for when stored at home.

My K-Z leaked at the rear corner due to a poorly installed roof at the factory. Since the unit was 5 years old, I knew K-Z would not fix, so I rolled up my sleeves, and did the fix myself.

I agree with the above and would be how I'd tackle it.

I had my dealer seal all roof components with eternabond, so you think they would have stepped up. But they did not. Basically said Jayco would not cover it.

The sarcasm and off topic comments on here is really getting out of control these days. Where's the moderators?

Find the leak and seal as quick as possible. Unless the delam. is too much to bear I wouldn't rush to sell.

I'll tell you... Priceless

EXACTLY!!! I never financed a "toy" before. Paid cash for 3 motorcycles and my first RV. They were all "pre kids" and I had the money to buy them.

Now we have outgrown our small camper and I have to decide to forego camping for the foreseeable future to save for a camper, or finance and buy a camper now and let my family enjoy camping. I never thought I would finance a "toy", but I will be financing my next camper.

Now, delamination is unfortunate and expensive... but if you can fix the leak you could get another couple years out of it. I believe that Jayco fiberglass walls have aluminum studs, so you don't need to worry about wood studs rotting. If you have an enclosed underbelly, you might want to lower the fabric and test the floor under the delam spots with a moisture meter. If there is excess moisture present, try to dry the wood out.

It might not look like new, but it will still let you enjoy the camper for years to come.

Our problem is we actually like Jayco's and are having a hard time finding another camper that we like. Not sure what the value is on it trying to trade it in. We aren't ready for a 5th wheel yet and were hoping to keep this another 5 years. Probably will trade soon before the damage gets worse. I'll post some pics when I get to real computer.

Was it your fault? Not sure if it was, or you are being sarcastic. :h

On a trailer that is out of warranty, it may be hard to get he manufacturer to do a goodwill repair. The manufacturer only needs to honour a warranty within the stated warranty period. Outside of that it would be a goodwill gesture but the onus is on you to prove that it was nothing you did.

I had a 2010 Jayco hybrid before this trailer and had no issues with it - period. OTOH, I had issues with this 2014's oven, radio, and one of the day-night shades in the year that I owned the thing. However, both the oven (actually the whole stove and oven) and the radio were replaced under warranty. As for the blind, the dealer is prepared to approach FR for a replacement. I told them I'd try and restring it (since I need to learn) and if I fail we'll get it replaced under warranty.

Point is warranty is good / no warranty means you pay. That goes with the territory especially when you consider the lack of QC that goes into these trailers. The BW tank is testament to that. The fact that the first dealer was not much better is not surprising.
