New diesel owner with questions

Have purchased our first diesel and was wondering what kind of items(parts) I should think about bringing along for our trip to South Dakota in a couple of weeks. The vehicle is a new F350 with the 6.7L Powerstroke.
Thanks for any info you more experienced diesel folks can share.

I always bring a spare fuel filter, and I fill up at high volume places.

Never needed it but a spare serpentine belt is something to think about. I also like to keep a bottle of antifreeze and window washer fluid.

1. Ensure the truck has at least 1k miles
2. Top off the DEF tank
3. Carry a spare fuel filter and the tools to change them out.
4. Hook up and enjoy your trip.

I've attached a video on how to change the fuel filters on a Super Duty. It's a very easy task and in my 10 years and 250,000 miles driving two diesel trucks I've yet to get my filters clogged.

Bring lots of Diesel :R. Have a 2012 F450 dually and love it. Only problems have been water in fuel. Some use additives, some do not. I use "SeaFoam" in with the Diesel and 100% gas used in my generator. Works, who knows. All I know is no problems since I started using.

I would advise against using Sea Foam in a Common Rail Fuel system. If you want to add a fuel additive Stanadyne, Power Service or Motor Craft PM22 additives are the only ones I would recommend.

Not sure how the Ford 6.7 is when changing the fuel filter but with my Ram CTD I need to drain the filter housing 1st then remove the filter. Actually it's a water separator drain valve on the bottom of the filter housing. Point being I need to carry a spare container of sorts so if the unthinkable happens and I need to replace my filter on the road I'm not draining diesel fuel on the ground. I just keep a 1 gal milk jug under the rear seat. Never needed it yet.
Might check the procedure for fuel filter replacement.

I always carry a bottle of DEF. It will run out in the most inconvenient places and you'll have to look at that warning every time you start the vehicle. I have noticed that a lot more places are carrying DEF now however.

Spare fuel filter(s) carried in a safe place away from damage or contamination yes.

One silly rule I have is to buy fuel from retail locations of companies that refine it... e.g. Exxon, Shell, etc. even if it costs $1.80 more a tank.

Don't "baby" it. USE IT. It needs to be worked, to break in.

and practice changing the fuel filter in the driveway to make sure in actual practice you have the tools and knowledge you need. It's not hard, it's just that figuring it out in the daylight when it is not raining makes it easier.
There's lots of advice and information in forums...
sometimes it is correct.

Just drive it and don't try to baby it. It likes to work hard!

X2-watch the turbo boost gauge and make sure you give it a workout-helps them stay cleaner I'm told.

I second the spare fuel filter idea. And use only the additives that the owners manual recommends. I never used any with my diesels. Never had a fuel related problem.
