Want to buy a truck cap that can comes off easily when needed and is reasonable in cost. Suggestions?

The last and only one I bought cost me $1,000. for my '99 1/2 ton. It fits my '04.5 if I watch how I put it on. It is fiberglass. I use a couple of 2x4s longer than it is wide and a pulley system I rigged in my shed rafters. I have also installed and removed it by myself or with the help of one other person. It weights less than 100#. Maybe the 2x4 system will work for you with some legs longer than truck is high then just unclamp it, install 2x4s,legs and drive out. Reverse to install.

Had the BAK flipback on my diesel I traded in. WOuld have kept that but the bed size was smaller.

My tonneau cover rubbed the paint off all across the back of my cab. Never again!

I had two truck covers on my two pickups. First was an Extang snap style vinyl cover that I hated each winter. Second was an Accesscover that I loved almost everything about. The only problem I had was it leaked, but I think it was partly due to the bed rail shape of the 2001-2003 F-150 Supercrew.

I love the quick access to the full bed vinyl covers offer. I never needed the full security for the 13 years I had a pickup, but some people do.

Do you need a truck cap? Have you considered folding tonneau covers like the ones made by BAK industries or the Undecover Flex? I'm personally between these two myself, they mount in with a clamping system and are easily removable when need be.

I have had a SnugTop brand canopy on my last 2 pickups .
A 1997 model and a 2002 model which I still have .
Fibreglass , good quality , modern looks and Heavy .
GemTop makes steel canopies which do not look quite as good but would be more durable if you would be installing and removing frequently .
My 2002 SnugTop has never been off the duramax .
I stopped buying suburbans in 1980 and have had a topper on six pickups since .
That is the most versatile setup I can find for a tow vehicle .

What's reasonable as far as cost? I'd like to get a different model for mine but they cost upwards of $1600 for fiberglass. If you dont mind the look of the all aluminum models they can be had for somewhere around $800 I think.

I have an ARE that I am very happy with. For removal, I bought a pre-made pulley lift system. Pretty sure it is an EZ lift. With some practice. I can do it myself.

The "comes off easily" part will be the toughest. I had good results with Leer but never attempted to remove it. Some folks come up with a set of pulley's that allow them to lift the cap up into the garage rafters. Wing nuts vs conventional nuts would work well. Good luck!
