No fuel cap?

Not sure what Ram was thinking with not having a fuel cap for diesel fuel, especially at a time when engines are more sensitive to water and dirt contaminates. It would be nice to even have a locking fuel cover to keep unwanted access to fuel and def openings.
I purchased a push in green cap that has an o-ring to help keep stuff out but does nothing for security.

My Audi has a cap but I really like the way the fuel door works. No button. If the car is locked, the fuel door is locked. If the car is unlocked, the fuel door is unlocked. You just give it a little push on the edge and it pops open. Anyone else have this system?

Yes, on both Touareg TDI's and the Passat TDI SE also.

Same here on my Acura.

Vapor recovery nozzles are the norm here plus they have a secondary shutoff that is a real pain when filling motorcycles or fuel cans.

Seems to be an issue here but nothing to with "Baby Boomers"
Fuel fumes dangerous to health

Interesting TV show last night about baby boomers. Ford has auto engineers whose job it is to design ergonomics for the aging "baby boomer" population.

The cap less fuel filler appears to be one of them. We are a large majority buying their (all manufacturers) cars but we are also getting old and loosening and tightening a gas cap can get hard with our arthritic hands.

I wonder if there is a safety aspect for everyone ,to prevent fumes leaking when filling up?

Probably, I am getting tired of the 6 o'clock news filled up with people blowing themselves up. 🙂

They were at Ford testing grounds and this is what was stated from Ford. Nothing said about fumes.

They were also test driving with a suit restricting the driver's movement, surgical gloves for less feel and ear plugs for the hearing impaired.

All for us aging boomers. Also said we are expected to live to an average age of 95!!!

I saw someone posted that there 2015 f250 didn't have a gas cap. I just went to the local ford dealer and all the superduties on there lot had gas caps.

So if they don't do the full service routine, clean windows front back and side mirrors I did the headlamps also and would get some nice tips too!), ask to check oil and if under the hood check the washer fluid, brake fluid and look at the air cleaner. Then why in the heck would someone want to pay for an attendant?

If you didn't do all the things I mentioned you would get fired! For every item we sold out at the pumps you got 15 cents. That doesn't sound like a lot but at the end of the week you could easily pull in a extra 20 bucks! In the mid 70's that was a lot of money! Besides washing the front windshield sometimes got you a view of..... well I'm sure all the guys that worked the fuel islands know what I'm talking about!!!! 😛 :B

It was better when people didn't pump their own gas, when you pulled in and said "fill it up". The attendant gassed your car, cleaned your windshield and if asked (and often even if not) checked your oil and tires. It made lots of jobs for young people too.

People used to be employed to shovel horse waste before there was gas.

I don't agree with you and the marketplace has spoken. People prefer DIY.

I agree with Tom. Would prefer to have oil, air checked. Windshield cleaned. Not sure it was the market place that spoke. More likely oil companies/dealers looking for more profit.

So why can't you pump your own gas in Oregon? Also do they have signs posted so people from out of town know not to pump it their self?

Why you can't pump your own gas in Oregon.

The law has been put up for the citizens of Oregon to repeal on more than one occasion since 1951 but has failed to pass. My DD likes not having to pump her own gas so that she will not get all smelly:)

It's an industry thing, not Ram specific. The door has a seal that seals to the fill pipe. No need for anything else.

Except in a case like this ... my wife's car has a gas cap, thank God!

Some butcher of a gas station attendant rammed the nozzle so hard into the filler tube that he broke off the little metal spring-loaded door and it disappeared into the tank. Still can use the gas cap to prevent fumes from escaping the tank.

What would one do if that happened with these newer vehicles?
