Position of bedroom

I am a newby and hope to have my travel trailer in the next few years and live fulltime eventually. I see some comments here and there about rear bedroom or front bedroom. Is there a preference for some reason for one over the other in a travel trailer? I am looking at Airstream right now and see both.

Very few of the campsites we've ever had in nearly 20 yrs of RV camping has offered any worthwhile view at the back or street side of the trailer and is most often just trees, trees, and more trees that block the view so any floor plan with a rear dinette just wouldn't offer any advantage at all to us. This is why we also wouldn't want any floor plan with a dinette on the street side and is yet another reason we chose our current couple's model that has no dinette at all. :B

We like a front bed, rear living with big picture window in the rear. Best is an open floorplan where we can wake up and look down the length of the trailer out the picture window while still in bed. Almost impossible to find this floorplan anymore.

Agree completely. Having the bed at the front of a rear entry trailer means I'm much less likely to disturb my wife as she sleeps in while I'm an early riser.

Weight balance, its important to know your 'real tongue weight' once all loaded up. That under the bed storage is usually large and sometimes we tend to over load it with heavy items.

The position of the TT door is just as important and it usually goes hand in hand with the bedroom location. Rear BR, front door.

Keep in mind , the location of your hookups, you want to be able to park close enough to the pedestal at the same time, not be on top of another RV that's parked behind you.

Also consider the position of the picnic table fire ring and where you will park your TV (Tow Veh) . A rear door TT will cause you to walk around and through your own campsite in order to access your TV. I keep a lot of stuff in my TV and i'm constantly in/out of it.

Personally, i like a front LR - front door because it feels like home rather than a TT. I also want my tv to be directly in front of the sofa. Some floorplans force you to view the tv off to the side at a 90 degree angle. That gets old real fast .

I have an airstream with a rear bedroom. I loved that our last outing the bedroom overlooked a creek. We like having the nice view from the bedroom and feel it is more private than the front bedroom. I could be wrong though. I also could see, depending on how the site is laid out, having the entry steps in the rear could mean you walk in on grass or sand because the concrete pad or gravel pad may have ended at the front to middle of the trailer.

Still, lots of folks have front bedrooms and love them. I would think most 5th wheels have that arrangement and it would be a similar feel.

As already mentioned, we wanted a bed you could exit without crawling over your spouse, ours is in the front. We wanted a big bath with linen closet so it takes up the entire back.

Our view is to the sides. In a campground it does not make much difference.

I will say many of the TT I have seen have the water tank over the axles regardless of the interior lay out.

I have a 25 ft. TT with a 42 gallon Fresh tank located over the axels and have never notices any handling difference tanks full or empty.

The Black and Grey tanks are located in the rear. We usually dumped before we leave camp unless it was a short stay. Therefore, so we rarely have more than more than 1/3 full in them.

Take your best guess at the TT you think you want, then rent a similar unit for a week or two. It is expensive but you learn a lot before you spend the big bucks.

We like our front bedroom that slides out. We can walk around and make the bed with no problems and have a large front closet.

GordonThree, I have a Shadow Cruiser 195WSB with a bed in thd front, my FW tank is directly over the axels!

But you are right weight placement is important, and should be considered when buying an RV.
