Problems w/6.0, 6.4 & 6.7 PowerStroke diesels video

I found this video that seems to give a good explanation of issues RVers might face with some Ford diesel pickups. The 7.3L was one of
the best engines ever put in a diesel pickup (according to Wiki). The
video explained the 7.3L had virtually no emissions equipment and was a simple design. Ever since emissions were placed on diesels, all kinds of problems came up. Later models were less reliable and more expensive to buy, repair and maintain. I have seen new Ford PUs with a sticker of $74K. That's just ridiculous.

New diesels also get reduced MPG, because fuel is used to clean emissions. Meaning more total fuel is burned. To me a couple living in a 5er, has a pretty energy efficient lifestyle. They have a small area to heat or cool and they tend to go were the temps are mild (i.e. summer up north, winter in FL). The additional cost has stopped my plans of buying a diesel & 5er. I'm sure it has done that to many others as well. So, I very much doubt the new emissions do anything for the environment. Here's the vid: http://tinyurl.com/pe6nxs5

Only reason 7.3 is STILL so highly regarded is because of the decade long failures with the 6.0/6.4. If those motors were half way reliable nobody would even be talking about the ancient 7.3 today... Weak 4-speed, noisy as hell, and not a lot of pulling power by todays standards.

No denying emissions have made modern diesels much less reliable.

Interesting video about these trucks. While I like Ford trucks, I think he has a point about the 05-07 trucks being the best bet. Kinda true also for other makers due to all the emission requirements now. That's another reason why I have left the diesel movement. I mean I have used both, the 01 Duramax that my parents had was awesome. At 250K she was traded in for a new ride. But to upkeep the new ones, well I don't have the deep pockets.. We have a friend that just lost their 6.7 due to an piston issue. While I don't know the specifics yet, it is an 11 model. Didn't a few have those have a crankshaft issue?? not sure... anyway at work our 6.4s are just falling apart at low miles with the front engine cover oil/collant mixing issues. While we still have some older 6.0 engines with upgrades that are still working with well over 200k on them. I don't want to take another chance on issues or getting stuck so gas engine it is. It may be no diesel but no headaches. And with gas its just so much easier to keep up and for me to work on.. just my thoughts only guys..

I love my F 250/6.7 Power Stroke. I could pull houses off their foundations with it and the brake controller is the envy of all in its class. I'll take my chances.

After nearly 16 years with a 99 Superduty 7.3 there is not much to miss compared to the new diesel's .

If you like the noise, smell ,lack of power then the 7.3 is the truck for you . Great truck in its day , buts its yesterday's truck.

I have been watching his videos for a while. I think of him as a decent source of information on Powerstrokes. That is basically all he does.

Ford's, GM's and Ram's diesels are no different than diesels in semis. Makes no difference in mfr as even the big semi trucks engines have issues as well. Engine wise they are fine. problems lie within the DEF and emission side of things. Thank you to the tree huggers. So to say that Ford's diesels in particular are problematic, one has to look at the whole diesel picture. Yes Ford seems to get the most notoriety, but similar issues with other mfrs seem to be under the radar. DEF and emission problems have cost semi engine makers coo-coo bucks. Now as for mpg's. Todays diesels are far more efficient than those of even 10 years ago. More power, torque, CLEANER--in fact the exhaust exiting a tailpipe on todays diesels is cleaner than the air going into the engine! Yet despite all this, both semis and pickups are not getting a whole lot lighter. My '15 F350 weighs in at 8500lbs and still gets decent mpgs. What are gas engines getting for mpgs, towing empty??? Diesels are more complex and when they ALL run/work, they are great. When they ALL have issues, they are the biggest pieces of junk.

I agree the prices of pickups is nuts. But we, the consumer keep on buying them.

Clicky I've been watching his videos for about seven years although I have not seen this one until now. I recently sold a F350/7.3/6 speed truck and the buyer wanted to have it checked out. I had him take it to this guy in Buford, GA over a Ford dealer who sells new trucks... Yes he bought it.
While writing this I listen to this video and everything he says is right on as usual. Did not know he sold trucks he's repaired. Might sell my 02 F350/7.3/6 speed with 70K miles and have him build a truck.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

RV living is definitely NOT cheaper than a s&b house. How do I know you ask? Easy, my 2400SqFt house cost me 80 dollars a month for gas and 90 for electricity. Winter 2013 living in my 300SqFt fiver in the same area cost me 125 a month for electricity and more than 150 a month for gas. Could I have done it cheaper by moving south? Probably, But like everyone always says, if momma aint happy no one is happy! And momma wanted a new house, so we spent 10 months looking.

Everyone affected by the costs of towing equipment and the regulations causing those prices have their own individual opinions, needs and financial abilities. That may be a great reason to consider one of today's totally capable gas powered trucks.
