Don,

That 454 had probably a 200hp/330 torque. A few more ponies than a 292 I6. At least that was the 454 specs in 81 when I bought the 81 292 C2500 I had.......

I don't know blt2ski, Dad's 1973 C30 454 auto towed our fiver from NW Ohio to S.Cal without any issues what so ever. That thing was fast for a big ole crew cab pickup.

As for Alex yep had Ford sent a truck with the 4.30 gears they would have been very close to the Ram. But they would Not and I repeat NOT been the MPG champs. That seems to be Ford's number one thing, being the MPG King. When they get their little 3.0 diesel on line in the f-150 then they will recapture the crown in the half ton market.

Now that would be very foolish on GM's part!

So with all this, the GM is under powered. Shall we compare the current model with a 1970's into early 80s with a 105HP 292 I6, 4.10s with a th400 auto. Muncie4 sp had some power per say, but the auto was a major slug! BOTH are slugs compared to todays offerings, and mighty plain too!

Just my take on the gm 6.0 power train. I have owned 2 of them and can attest to its power and reliability and so can others. Yes on paper it's lesser on the HP and TQ ratings. But it will hang with the other offerings or even perform better in test. To each his own opinion, but I like mine. Granted I just tuned it with Blackbear and dumped some of the TQ management which in turn has woke this engine up even more. I figure it's so darn reliable, GM will probably continue to keep it around. I see a strong possibility of direct injection being used with it. I have met other owners that have high miles with their trucks and still run and work as they should. It will be interesting to see what GM does with it. 2018 models are right around the corner and one source I had read stated that GM was going to dump a gas 3/4 ton and would stick just with diesel. Now I can't see that, and the web loves to speculate.... Lol

One thing a person can say for sure. GM needs to update the gas engine offering they use in the HDs. They are way behind power wise.

I'm not so sure you can say that... My father in law has a 6.0 and loves it. Great engine, durable and dependable. It has worked well for many years and is a proven design. They still sell plenty of 6.0 trucks. Ford had the underpowered 5.4 for many, many years. People still bought it because it was a dependable engine and you knew that if you did simple routine maintenance, it would run for a very long time.

I think the one thing that everyone can agree upon is that all these trucks are very capable, very dependable, very strong, very efficient vehicles. The differences between these trucks are negligible at the end of the day. Buy the engine that you like/need and the brand truck that you like/need. They are all great trucks.

All the ***** measuring threads about Made in America vs foreign owned and problems that your uncles, sisters, father-in-law saw one time while working at a Cummins shop are just nonsense to inflate the self worth of a couple of people. Bottom line, all these trucks are great and we live in a fantastic time to be truck owners. They are expensive (holy moly are they expensive), but they are great trucks.

I was looking at Ram and Ford gas engine 3/4 ton trucks when I stumbled upon my used Cummins Ram. I love this truck, but I am sure I would have loved a gas engine truck too. They are all great products. I can't wait for Spring so I have other choices of threads to read besides these "measuring contest" threads.

LMAO OK until you get to the towing and weight section, you know the work part. What it showed is they ALL are just about the same until again you get to the working part of the testing. Then Ram and Chevy both spank the Ferd.

Not really the case when they are all equipped with the highest gear ratio, put the 4.30 gears in the Ford and the ratings come up to pretty much the same as the others. More a case of how each test truck was optioned, in real life when optioned properly, the big three are very similar ratings wise.

What's more surprising is the fact that the Nissan is there, it is in no was close to being on the same playing field as the others, it belongs in a test with the F150 HD and the GM with their heavier payload model. More of a 5/8 ton class really.

They all are pretty comparable, imo. Just reinforces my prior opinion that you can't go wrong with any of the big 3s trucks in this day and age.

The 6.0l vortec in the Chevy may be slightly down on power, but it's still a darn good engine. Just my .02.

Surprised they would put the Titan in that class.

The Titan XD is the new truck Nissan is promoting as a 3/4 with a 5.0L Cummins V8 engine option. Obviously they also offer the 5.7L gas engine.

I know how they are marketing it, but it just doesn't seem to fit. Especially when you look at things like payload. And from what I read, they said a 5.9l engine. I am pretty sure they are still doing the 5.6.

Seems to me that is more in the F150 HD range than a 2500. Or else they should have included the Tundra as well. After all, it did pull the space shuttle.......
