slide or not to slide

Hi I am thinking of picking up a lance 992 2009 with 2 slides
but one of the ones i looked at. The slide when in all the way on the top but stuck
out about an inch at the bottom. So I am thinking slides might be more of a pain in the butt. Or should i just stick with a bigfoot.
If looking at the lance anything else I should look at.thanks

If you want, or need, the space - slide. If not, no slide.

With a family of four, we love our slide. No rv benefits more from a slide, than the limited space of a truck camper.

Our first and current TC is a non slide. Love it. After one year of use I can say we are thinking slide. When we are out, the last thing we tend to do is hang out in the TC. We are normally on the go daylight till dark. All that being said, it seems a slide would offer a little more breathing room and openess so that if we took the dog or family with us we would be happier.

Would not have one without the slide. I started with a non slide TC. Just my opinion.

My friends Bigfoot and Lance without a slide feel claustrophobic to me. I enjoy the slide.

If it was up to me only, I would have a non-slide. But because the wife wanted a slide that is what we ended up with. It does give the camper a roomier feel & I can access the camper with the slide in if I suck in my gut. When camping in high winds or single digit temps I run the slide in to keep the camper warmer & keep the slide awning from flapping all night. Having a slide means it takes a little longer to wash & maintain the camper. One thing to remember when using a slide, keep the camper level. You may put undue stresses on the slide mechanism if it is not level.

I'd rent one of each and see what you think. We opted for a non slide, but we boondock almost exclusively and spend all our time outside except to sleep and hole up occasionally. That's not everyone's style of camping. There are definite advantages to both.

Fortunately, there are quality campers built both ways, so we can all choose what we think fits us best. 🙂

I loved my AF990 with full wall slide. Really depends on your use. Good luck.

5 years now with a non slide Lance 1055. It works for us and the 3 dogs. I do belive its one of the Largest non slide TCs that Lance or anyone else made. It's heavy due to its size and needs a dually to carry it well.

There are many more people out there who own trouble-free slides, than there are people who have trouble with their slides. What you read here is the vocal minority, as you do in any online forum.

Just think about it for a second: Out of all the campers you looked at, presumably several, *ONE* had possible slide problems.

My suggestion is you judge each camper individually on its own merits. If everything works and it works for you, try to work out a deal. Politely walk away if things don't seem right.

I wouldn't drop my slides for anything, and my DW wouldn't come if we didn't have slides.

I can't access the camper without atleast 1 slide out due to the design, but that doesn't change anything for me personally.

The only thing I might do is run a relay for the remote activation button so that I can put in / put out the slides while still in bed.

If you plan on stealth camping, make sure you can use it with the slide in. Kind of hard to be stealthy when you have to open up the slide.

DW and I just completed a 4600 miles 4 week trip in our very small non-slide 815. We never had a problem or wished for more space, must less having a slide. IMO, the loss of cabinet space (most don't have a cabinet in the slide) nor the potential for problems are worth the few extra feet.

My fathers 3000 series bigfoot easily sits 4 at the dinnett, but his camper is 8'-6" wide. We did see an Artic Fox 865 on our trip which is a non-slide with dinette that could sit 4 if you don't mind be a bit snug, but it wouldn't be bad, only issue is the weight of the Artic Fox unit.
